  • Patent number: 5581277
Abstract: A computer mouse assembly for preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome includes a computer mouse and a palm support having a curved upper surface. The palm surface has a substantially flat lower surface that is adjustably mounted on the upper surface of the computer mouse. The palm support serves to prevent the user's wrist from significantly bending, thereby preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome despite extended use of the computer mouse. A first piece of hook or loop type material is attached to the computer mouse. A second piece of hook or loop type material is attached to the lower surface of the palm support. The palm support is mounted on the upper surface of the computer mouse by interconnecting the first piece of hook or loop type material to the second piece of hook or loop type material. The palm support may be moved to various positions on the surface of the computer mouse in order to adapt to the differing hand sizes of a variety of different users.

  • Patent number: 5423777
Abstract: A punctum plug used to temporarily close the punctal openings of the eye. The plug has a cap, a shaft, and a hollow bulb portion. The cap and shaft have an internal bore therein. A tool may be inserted into the bore so that the bulb portion is elongated and stretched, allowing the plug to be inserted into a punctal opening and into its lacrimal duct. The tool is then withdrawn from the plug, allowing the bulb portion to return to its original configuration, which effectively anchors the plug in the duct. An elongated shaft is used for another embodiment of the plug, which allows the plug to be inserted deeper into a duct. In yet another embodiment, a coiled body portion is used in place of the bulb portion. The insertion tool is used to stretch or uncoil the coiled body portion so that the plug may be inserted into a lacrimal duct. Withdrawal of the insertion tool allows the body portion to return to its original coiled configuration, anchoring the plug in the duct.

  • Patent number: 5364270
Abstract: In an apparatus having a video display and display-synchronizing motion mechanism, various images can be easily selected and displayed, and a seat or the like is moved in synchronism with motions in the images, so that a person can enjoy the images as if real. An information select unit specifies a desired one of a plurality of video/motion information pieces recorded on a storage medium, and an information read unit reads the specified video/movement information. Images formed by video information contained in the readout video/motion information are displayed on a display device, and the seat or the like is moved in synchronism with the images on the basis of motion information contained therein. A monitor unit monitors the readout video/motion information, and stops a read operation of the information read unit when the apparatus malfunctions.

  • Patent number: 5196689
Abstract: A device for detecting an object by detecting an infrared ray emitted from a moving object. The device includes a plurality of light receiving elements, each being disposed so as to receive infrared rays at a predetermined directional optical angle, and the position of and distance to the object is detected based on detection results by the respective light receiving elements. The moving speed and acceleration of the object are also detected from detection results by the respective light receiving elements, taking time-varying factors into consideration.
