Publication number: 20070033341Abstract: To eliminate duplicated caching in a storage system with plural disk cache partitions, which are obtained by dividing a disk cache. A storage system includes non-volatile medium that stores data; a disk cache that temporarily stores data to be stored in the non-volatile medium; a control unit that controls input and output of data to and from the non-volatile medium; and a memory unit that stores information used by the control unit. The control unit divides the disk cache into at least one of independent disk cache partitions. The memory unit stores the first information that describes states of respective memory areas in the disk cache, and the second information that indicates states of respective memory areas in the disk cache used by the divided disk cache partitions. The second information includes information that identifies the first information corresponding to the respective memory areas in the disk cache.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2005Publication date: February 8, 2007Inventors: Akiyoshi Hashimoto, Aki Tomita

Patent number: 7167958Abstract: A second storage conventionally authenticates a host computer, but this is weak in a disguise attack. Further, since there is provided only an option of two ways: connection authorization and connection rejection, an intrusion into the host computer directly leads to destruction of data in the second storage. Therefore, a plurality of network transportation ports are provided and connected to different networks, respectively, and an access right to data in a second storage is specified for the transportation port. Furthermore, it can be specified whether or not the access for each I/O command is authorized.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2002Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Akiyoshi Hashimoto, Tetsuya Uemura

Patent number: 6968425Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for reducing an overhead of storing a log of each host processor in a cluster system that includes a plurality of host processors. Part of a disk cache of a disk system shared by the plurality of host processors is used as a log storage area. In order to make this possible, the disk system is provided with an interface enabled to be referred to and updated from each of the host processors separately from an ordinary I/O interface. A storage processor controls an area of the disk cache used for ordinary I/O processes by means of a disk cache control table. And a storage processor controls a log area allocated in the disk cache by means of an exported segments control table. The disk cache area registered in the exported segments control table is mapped into the virtual address space of the main processor by an I/O processor.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2003Date of Patent: November 22, 2005Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventor: Akiyoshi Hashimoto

Publication number: 20050022024Abstract: A file server is formed by hard disk drives directly connected to a LAN. When a hard disk drive is started, a file controller sets up a configuration that prevents other network devices from accessing the hard disk drive. This configuration makes the file controller the only network device that can access the hard disk drive, thus ensuring data security.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2003Publication date: January 27, 2005Applicant: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventor: Akiyoshi Hashimoto

Publication number: 20040139168Abstract: In a storage system directly connected to a network, if conventional interfaces and protocols are used when an I/O command issued from a file server is transmitted to the storage system, the command/data is serially transferred via a single transfer path so that the performance is lowered. Conventional interfaces do not provide the means to notify the storage system of the failure at the file server. The file server and a channel adapter of the storage system are mounted on the same board and connection paths therebetween are controlled so that a plurality of protocols can be operated independently. A path independent from a command/data path is provided between the file server and channel adapter, and the received failure information is stored in a shared memory of the storage system and used for the fail-over.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2003Publication date: July 15, 2004Applicant: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Atsushi Tanaka, Akiyoshi Hashimoto, Norio Hirako

Patent number: 5776251Abstract: In a duplex type coating apparatus, a left-right pair of dies and are disposed on opposite sides of a carrying path of a web, the dies and are each made up of an upper member and a lower member, a tip part of the lower member projects further toward the carrying path than a tip part of the upper member, and coating liquid discharge passages are inclined in the direction of the carrying path of the web. As a result, because the same amount of coating liquid is discharged from each of the dies and coated onto each side of the web, it is possible to carry out coating at the same coating thickness and in the same position on both sides of the web.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Hirano Tecseed Co., Ltd.Inventors: Nobuaki Irie, Takao Ishida, Akiyoshi Hashimoto, Yasutomi Yoshimura

Patent number: 4994658Abstract: A reader/writer apparatus for an optical memory card for reading and/or writing data with respect to the optical memory card having a data storing face, which apparatus comprises a card holder including a carriage carrying and holding the card inserted and transporting the card to a reading or writing position and a feeding mechanism for driving the carriage. The reader/writer of the present invention may further comprise an optical waveguide holder holding an optical waveguide, which is connected, at a base end thereof, to the light emitting and receiving section of a reading head, so that another end of the optical waveguide may oppose a data recording face of the optical memory card. The waveguide holder is moved independently of the movement of the car holder. The reader/writer apparatus of the present invention may further comprise a regulating member for regulating the angular position of the card.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1990Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: CSK CorporationInventors: Shunzo Takahashi, Yukio Hamasaki, Akiyoshi Hashimoto, Hidefumi Suzuki
