  • Patent number: 6606289
Abstract: An optical recording medium for accurately deriving the address information or the disc rotation control information despite narrow track pitch and for recording signals to a high density, and a method and apparatus for recording and/or reproducing such optical recording medium. The optical recording medium has a wobbled groove and pits formed at a pre-set interval in an area between turns of the wobbled groove. The recording/reproducing method includes controlling rotation of the optical recording medium by a wobbled signal from the groove and detecting the position on the optical recording medium of a recording signal by pit signals detected from the pits. The recording/reproducing apparatus includes a detection device for detecting the wobbled signal from the groove and a detection device for detecting pit signals from the pits.

  • Patent number: 6587424
Abstract: A dye record disc has a disc shape substrate having a track-forming surface divided into a read-only area and a recordable area. A reproducing track is formed on the track-forming surface in the read-only area, and has a plurality of pits, each of the pits comprising a dye material, and having a shape corresponding to the reproducing information. A recording/reproducing track is formed on the track-forming surface in the recordable area, and extends continuously, the recording/reproducing track comprising the same dye material as each of the pits.

  • Publication number: 20020154586
Abstract: By the control information recording method, control information to control at least one of recording and reproducing operations of record information on an information record medium is recorded onto a guide track of the information record medium. The control information recording method is provided with the steps of: generating a control information timing signal one after another at an interval corresponding to a length of a control information unit equal to an N (N: predetermined integer not less than 2) multiple of a length of a record information unit of the record information; and recording the control information onto the guide track of the information record medium, on the basis of a timing corresponding to the control information timing signal.

  • Patent number: 6233220
Abstract: A disc cartridge includes an upper lid and a lower lid for housing an optical disc or a magneto-optical disc between them. The disc cartridge also includes amechanism for making a gap between the upper lid and the lower lid varable. The mechanism increases a clearance between the surface of the disc housed in the disc cartridge and the inner surface of the upper and lower lids when the disc cartridge is inserted in an information recording and reproducing device. The mechanism may also increase a clearance between the outer rim of the disc and the inner wall of the disc cartridge when the disc cartridge is inserted in an information recording and reproducing device.
