  • Patent number: 8257445
Abstract: By forming a bone-compatible implant wherein a groove or hole has been formed in the surface of a base material made of titanium metal or a titanium alloy at its joint with a bone tissue and the groove or hole has on the inner surface thereof an oxide film formed by heating in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, apatite is allowed to deposit on the inner surface of the groove or hole easily. Thus, an implant is provided which can be attached to a bone within a relatively short period of time even without resorting to bone cement.

  • Publication number: 20100159118
Abstract: A heat treatment is performed on a base material so that its surface is formed thereon with a titanium oxide film, and then, the titanium oxide film is irradiated with ultraviolet rays, whereby a biocompatible implant is produced. At this time, preferable methods are that for forming a titanium oxide film by heating a base material made of titanium metal or a titanium alloy in an oxidizable gas, and that for forming a titanium oxide film according to a sol-gel method by coating a liquid containing a titanium compound on the surface of the base material, followed by heating. Thereby, a method for producing a biocompatible implant having a titanium oxide film excellent in an ability of forming hydroxyapatite is provided.

  • Patent number: 6544288
Abstract: A biocompatible implant for medical use having a layer of titanium or titanium alloys on its surface. The implant is electrochemically treated by using it for an anode in an electrolyte solution containing calcium ions so as to produce a layer of hydrated oxides or hydrated oxide gels, or is subject to an anodic treatment. Subsequently the implant is subject to another electrochemical surface treatment where the implant is employed as a cathode so as to yield a layer that involves or is adsorbed with calcium ions, thus forming on the implant a hydrated gel layer that has an excellent ability of forming apatite.

  • Publication number: 20020143398
Abstract: A biocompatible implant for medical use having a layer of titanium or titanium alloys on its surface. The implant is electrochemically treated by taking it for an anode in electrolyte solution containing calcium ions so as to produce a layer of hydrated oxides or hydrated oxide gels, or is subject to an anodic treatment, and subsequently the implant is subject to another electrochemical surface treatment where the implant in turn is employed as a cathod so as to yield a layer that involves or is adsorbed with calcium ions, thus forming on the implant a hydrated gel layer that has an excellent ability of forming apatite.

  • Patent number: 5855612
Abstract: A biocompatible titanium implant with a modified exterior surface having a covering layer that comprises a hydrated titania gel. The exterior surface of the titanium implant is processed by a hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution that contains metal ions which not only promotes a reaction between the titanium implant and the hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution but also provides a high apatite formation ability to the hydrated titania gel on the surface of the implant.
