  • Patent number: 8295884
Abstract: A method for providing digital compensation and vector calibration for a base station in a wireless network is provided. The method includes performing a single process that is operable to provide simultaneously both digital compensation and vector calibration for the base station. According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, the single process is performed by receiving a transmitted signal based on a compensation/calibration (C/C) signal, processing the received signal, generating a C/C weight based on the processed signal, and using the C/C weight in a normal operational mode for the base station.

  • Patent number: 7486738
Abstract: An apparatus for reducing the crest factor of a multi-carrier transmission system. The apparatus comprises a plurality of single carrier crest factor reduction circuits. Each of the single carrier crest factor reduction circuits receives a selected one of a plurality of single carrier signals and generates a crest factor reduced (CFR) single carrier signal. The apparatus also comprises an up-converter for up-converting each of the CFR single carrier signals to a selected frequency and combining the up-converted CFR single carrier signals to thereby produce a multi-carrier signal. The apparatus further comprises a first multi-carrier crest factor reduction circuit for receiving the multi-carrier signal and generating a first crest factor reduced (CFR) multi-carrier signal.

  • Patent number: 7224742
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of a multicarrier transmission system. The apparatus comprises a detector for receiving a plurality of symbols to be transmitted and determining a peak amplitude of the plurality of symbols and a controller for determining if the peak amplitude associated with the plurality of symbols exceeds a predetermined threshold. If the peak amplitude exceeds the predetermined threshold, the apparatus generates at least one correction carrier signal. The at least one correction carrier signal is combined with a plurality of modulated carrier signals associated with the plurality of symbols to thereby reduce a peak-to-average power ratio associated with the plurality of modulated carrier signals.

  • Patent number: 6704353
Abstract: Channel induced distortion is cancelled from a QAM or similarly modulated signal that has both a signal component and a distortion component. Using digital signal processing, the information component of the received signal is removed by canceling magnitude variations arising from the information content. This is accomplished by normalizing the received signal to the magnitude value of one ring on the QAM constellation. Once the distortion component of the received signal is reconstructed, a compensation factor can be derived and applied to the received signal in order to remove the effects of the channel distortion prior to further processing and decoding of the received signal.

  • Patent number: 6697439
Abstract: Carrier wave frequency is quickly acquired without burdensome MIPs requirements by limiting the spectral analysis of the incoming channel to the expected band edges. The right and left band edges spectral energy is compared and clock frequency correction is made from the results of this comparison. A band pass filter, such as a Goertzel algorithm filter, is employed to quickly and with processing efficiency perform the spectral analysis at the band edges. Once the direction of the frequency error is derived, the correct frequency can be acquired through a feedback loop employing various iterative correction techniques, such as a gearshift approach in which certain predefined frequency corrections are imposed in decreasing steps until the desired carrier frequency has been acquired.
