  • Patent number: 11528187
Abstract: Directional capacity of interfaces for networking devices are dynamically modified. Network traffic utilization of one direction of a network interface may be determined. A modification to a capacity of the networking device to process network traffic in the one direction of the network may be determined. The modification may then be applied to the networking device so that subsequent network traffic is processed according to the modified capacity in the one direction of the interface.

  • Patent number: 11483944
Abstract: A rack within a datacenter or other environment can include a plurality of appliances arranged in the rack such that ports of the appliances are aligned vertically or in another direction. A cartridge can include an elongate rigid body along which connectors are arranged. The connectors may be engageable with the aligned ports of the appliances in response to translation of the cartridge toward the rack. The cartridge can include cabling within the elongate rigid body, and the cabling can provide paths among subsets of the connectors, for example, such that subsets of the appliances are accordingly connected for transmission of data or other signals.

  • Patent number: 11462872
Abstract: A cage assembly may define a part of a computing appliance. The assembly can include a cage formed by walls and defining a continuous interior volume bounded by a top face, a bottom face, a right face, a left face, a front face, and a rear face. A first edge connector may be within a leftward portion of the interior volume. A second edge connector may be within a rightward portion of the interior volume and positioned laterally from the first edge connector. The arrangement may permit engagement with multiple individual-width plugs (e.g., each bearing an individual paddle card) or a single plug (e.g., bearing multiple paddle cards spaced laterally from one another and aligned for engagement with the first and second edge connectors within the cage).

  • Patent number: 11457294
Abstract: An apparatus can include an optical transceiver having a body with a first end at which a circuitry interface is located to facilitate transfer of data between a network appliance and the optical transceiver. The apparatus further includes a four-cable interface at a second end of the body. The four-cable interface releasably receives four independently releasable connectors for transfer of optical signals between the optical transceiver and respective ferrules of the four independently releasable connectors. In some examples, a carrier may be provided that is releasably connected with the four-cable interface and that includes four sockets for respectively independently receiving the four independently receivable connectors so as to facilitate collective insertion and removal of the four independently releasable connectors relative to the four-cable interface.

  • Patent number: 10908369
Abstract: Optical transceivers include receiver-side and transmitter-side optical switches that selectively route optical signals to be transmitted to a wavelength division multiplexer or demultiplexed received signals to corresponding photodetectors. Other optical signals are transmitted or received via optical fibers and directed by the optical switches without wavelength multiplexing. In some examples, the switches are programmable and data routing can be altered as desired. In other examples, the switches are fixed, and data routing is altered by switch replacement.

  • Patent number: 10826780
Abstract: An active patch panel assembly splits an optical signal of a fiber optic cable into two signals: a first signal directed to a patch panel port and a second signal measured by an optical sensor unit. A network management service of a computing services resource provider receives signal information from the optical sensor unit regarding the optical signal. The network management server may compare the signal information with signal information received from another patch panel assembly. Based on a correspondence between the signal information of the different patch panels, the network management service may determine a data path association between the optical signals. The data path association may be recorded in a database that stores data path associations of a service provider.

  • Patent number: 10690863
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for identifying characteristics of communication cable are described. For example, a connector of a communication cable may include a set of pins. When the connector is plugged into an active device such as a transceiver, a pattern of the set of pins may be determined. This pattern may be associated with a characteristic of the communication cable (e.g., manufacture, manufacturing date, etc.).

  • Patent number: 10447545
Abstract: A system adapted to identify a router port corresponding to a DWDM device port is disclosed. A port identification server gathers and accumulates time series traffic data for a port of a DWDM device and plurality of router ports. The port identification server compares the time series traffic data for the port of the DWDM device with the time series data for router ports in order to determine which one of the router ports has data transmitted therefrom and received thereat that best fits or corresponds to the data received at and sent from the DWDM port. The port identification server identifies the router port that has time series data traffic that most closely matches the data traffic at the DWDM port as connected to the DWDM port.

  • Patent number: 10448127
Abstract: Communication systems include network nodes that distribute an electrical or optical base signal to remote nodes for modulation at the remotes nodes. A first waveguide is coupled to transmit data to a corresponding remote node, a second waveguide is coupled to receive remotely modulated data from the remote node, and a third waveguide is coupled to deliver the base signal to the remote node. Typically, the base signal is an optical signal from a laser diode, and optical fibers communicate modulated data signals and the base signal. A portion of the base signal can also be modulated for communication with remote nodes.

  • Patent number: 10225016
Abstract: Wavelength multiplexed optical communication systems include a channeled chromatic dispersion compensator coupled to receive modulated optical beams associated with a plurality of optical channels at respective communication wavelengths. The channeled chromatic dispersion compensator applies independently selected dispersion compensations to each of the optical channels by identifying a dispersion compensation associated with a preferred bit error rate, inter-symbol interference, or other signal quality metric, or determined using optical fiber properties such as dispersion slope and zero dispersion wavelength. Chromatic dispersion compensation can be coupled with channel power equalization, and can be performed at a receiver or a transmitter or in the middle of a fiber span.

  • Patent number: 10211920
Abstract: Optical communication systems include optical time domain reflectometers that are coupled to link fibers to determine link fiber lengths. After length measurement, chromatic dispersion associated with the measured length is estimated. In some examples, the estimated chromatic dispersion is compensated. A single OTDR can be used to assess a pair of link fibers coupling first and second network nodes by injecting a probe pulse at a common end of the link fibers or by routing the probe pulses from a remote end of one link fiber into a remote end of a second fiber.

  • Patent number: 9946034
Abstract: A plug may be coupled with a cable and include a fiber ferrule extending from the plug. A biasing mechanism may be arranged to bias a cover toward a covered configuration in which the fiber ferrule is situated within an internal volume defined by the cover and away from an uncovered configuration in which the fiber ferrule is situated at least partially outside of the internal volume defined by the cover. Bristles or other blockers may be positioned along or within a boundary of the internal volume of the cover, may be arranged to block particulate entry through the blockers into the internal volume of the cover in the covered configuration, and may be movable to permit passage of the fiber ferrule through the blockers in response to movement of the cover between the covered configuration and uncovered configuration.
