  • Patent number: 7449868
Abstract: A current sensor circuit is provided for sensing a current of a power converter and generating a voltage proportional to the sensed current. The generated voltage proportional to the sensed current is used to drive at least one switch in the power converter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 7, 2004
Date of Patent: November 11, 2008
    Assignee: Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation

  • Patent number: 7142046
Abstract: A system includes an output terminal at which power is provided to a load, wherein the load defines a load current. A respective power supply can be coupled to each of a plurality of input terminals for providing current to the load. Each of a plurality of gate modulated diodes is connected between the output terminal and a respective input terminal. Each gate modulated diode has a forward voltage drop that is controllable by a voltage signal applied to a gate of the gate modulated diode. Control circuitry is operable to apply the voltage signal at the gate of each gate modulated diode to control the respective forward voltage drop so that each power supply provides a substantially equal amount of current to the load.

  • Patent number: 6956429
Abstract: A voltage regulator includes an input terminal at which an input voltage is applied and an output terminal at which an output voltage is provided to a load. The load defines a load current. A gate modulated diode is connected between the input terminal and the output terminal. The gate modulated diode has a forward voltage drop that is controllable by a voltage signal applied to a gate of the gate modulated diode. A first operational amplifier, capable of operating with a low supply voltage, is operable to apply the voltage signal at the gate of the gate modulated diode to control the forward voltage drop. The output voltage is regulated to a predetermined low voltage when the load current is within an operational range for the voltage regulator.

  • Patent number: 6642738
Abstract: The disclosure describes a method and apparatus for FET current sensing using the voltage drop across the drain to source resistance that eliminates dependencies on temperature of the FET and/or statistical distribution of the initial value of drain to source resistance of the FET. In one embodiment, first and second FETs are provided. Each of the first and second FETs include a gate, a source, and a drain. The gate of the first FET is configured to receive a first voltage, and the source of the first FET is configured to be coupled to ground. The gate of the second FET is configured to receive a second voltage, and the source of the second FET is configured to be coupled to ground. A circuit is also provided and includes first and second input nodes coupled to the drain of the first and second FETs, respectively.
