Abstract: A vehicle security system for controlling the operation of a vehicle. The security system includes a controller and a concealed proximity sensor that provides an input to the controller. The proximity sensor is activated by the presence of a body within a defined detection zone in the interior of the vehicle. The controller receives additional inputs from additional devices and toggles through a plurality of security states in which different levels of activation and immobilization are triggered depending upon user input and upon the specific inputs received.

Abstract: The adaptation of a regular pocket size computer for use by a visually impaired person is provided. A framework is firstly provided for building adapted applications, having adapted input and output services, a system resources library including tools for interacting with these adapted services and an adaptation library. A tactile keyboard is further provided to allow data entry through the screen interface of the computer. The tactile keyboard includes a membrane having raised keys on one side and corresponding screen activating tips on the other. Means for mounting the keyboard above the computer with the screen activating tips positioned in contact less alignment with the corresponding selected areas of the screen interface are also provided.

Abstract: Novel methods of medical treatment and/or inhibition of development of diseases are disclosed for diseases that are sensitive to androgenic or estrogenic activity. The treatments utilize inhibitors of type 5 and/or type 3 17&bgr;-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Novel inhibitors of type 5 17&bgr;-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase are also disclosed, as are novel inhibitors of type 3 17&bgr;-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase.

Methods of producing the enzyme and using the enzyme to identify potential compounds which inhibit or alter the activity of the enzyme are described. In addition, methods of using antibodies to localize the protein, or using the gene sequence or portions thereof for probes or using the gene sequence to produce expression-disrupting sense or antisense DNA fragments thereof, or antisense RNA, are provided.

Abstract: A locking cover for a dead bolt lock assembly that permits a user to put it in one of three positions: neutral, locked and unlocked. The cover in the neutral position permits the operation of the bolt lock assembly normally. The other positions limit the rotational travel of the actuating shaft to one quarter of a turn. The actuating shaft is rotated by turning the locking cover that includes a central tubular cylinder for selective engagement with the actuating shaft. A pin mounted on the interior of the cover is receivable within one of three holes on an annular base plate that limits the rotation of the actuating shaft.

Abstract: The present invention relates to adaptors for mounting a baby chair on a bicycle. The adaptor includes an elongated supporting structure provided with a bending channel fitted with a cushioning element to reduce the shocks and the vibrations usually transmitted from the bicycle to the child seated in the baby chair so that the child may comfortably and safely be transported on a conventional bicycle. The elongated supporting structure includes a first end to be mounted to the bicycle and a second end provided with a fixing plate, on which a baby chair is installed. Different accessories, for example, luggage racks, reflectors and flags may also be added to the adaptor.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are derivatives of 5-(lower alkyl)-7-amino-2,3-dihydro-1,4-phthalazinedione having substituents on the amino group. The derivatives have luminescent properties which render them useful as analytical tools in clinical chemistry. Adaptation of the derivatives for luminescent immunoassay provides valuable reagents and assays with outstanding sensitivity.

Abstract: A method of treatment of breast cancer in susceptible animals whose ovarian hormonal secretions were previously blocked by surgical or chemical means, e.g., by use of an LH-RH agonist, e.g., [D-Trp.sup.6, des-Gly-NH.sub.2.sup.10 ]LH-RH ethylamide with a combination therapy comprising administering an antiandrogen, e.g., flutamide and an antiestrogen, e.g., Tamoxifen, pharmaceutical compositions useful for such treatment and two and three component pharmaceutical kits containing such compositions are disclosed.
