Publication number: 20220122250Abstract: Described here are systems and method for predicting clinically relevant brain features using geometric deep learning techniques, such as may be implemented with graph convolutional neural networks or autoencoder networks that are applied to graph representations of brain surface morphology derived from medical images. As an example, graph convolutional neural networks can be applied to brain surface morphology data derived from magnetic resonance images (e.g., T1-weighted) using surface extraction techniques in order to predict brain feature data.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2021Publication date: April 21, 2022Inventors: Pierre Alain Besson, Sarah Kathleen Bandt

Patent number: 6401843Abstract: A drilling head with a cone rock bit, each cone having a stationary part and a rotary part which rotates about an axis of rotation. Also included is a dynamic sealing device between the stationary part and the rotary part. The sealing device is borne by the rotary party and has a first sealing lip and a second sealing lip, each of which forms a surface of revolution about the axis of rotation. Further, the first and second lips bear respectively against a first bearing face and a second bearing face secured to the stationary part. The first lip is oriented in such a way that it presses against the first bearing face under the action of the pressure, and the second lip is oriented in such a way that it moves away from the second bearing face under the action of the pressure of the lubricating product, so as to allow this product to fill a cavity and compensate for the pressure in the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignees: Hutchinson, TotalInventors: Alain Besson, Patrick Fayaud, Bernard Tissier, Pierre Lecour

Patent number: 5957227Abstract: A drilling tool has several blades 16 each defining an outside wall 20 and two side walls 22, 24. The blades are separated by recesses 18, primary bits 28 are located along the outside wall of the blades, and secondary or backup bits 40 are attached behind the primary bits in relation to the direction of travel (f) of the tool. Each of the blades defines at least one divergent tunnel or channel 30 having small entry opening 32 located in the outside wall of the blade, behind the primary bits, and a larger exit opening 34 located on the rear side of the blade. The secondary bits are mounted at the rear edge of the entry opening, and the channel serves to discharge material excavated by them.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignees: Total, Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Alain Besson, Kenneth Blackwood

Patent number: 5823277Abstract: An integral tool bit for drilling a rock formation, including a cemented metal carbide holder (30) attached to the tool and joined, e.g. soldered, to a plate (34) in the form of a cylindrical disc made from polycrystalline diamond particles and having a side wall (40), and a substantially flat free surface (36). The plate (34) is positioned so that the plane of its free flat surface (36) is at an acute angle (.alpha.) to a line (N) normal to the surface (25) of the rock formation, and the angle is directed in the same direction as the forward direction (F) of the drill bit so that the plate engages the rock formation with its side wall (40).Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1997Date of Patent: October 20, 1998Assignees: Total, DB Stratabit S.A.Inventors: Robert Delwiche, Alain Besson

Patent number: 5592995Abstract: An earth-boring bit has a bit body and at least one cantilevered bearing shaft depending inwardly and downwardly from the bit body. A cutter is mounted for rotation on the bearing shaft and includes a plurality of cutting elements arranged in generally circumferential rows including an outer or heel row of cutting elements. At least one of the cutting elements in the heel row has an outermost surface at least partially formed of super-hard material that defines a cutting edge for shearing engagement with the sidewall of the borehole as the cutters roll and slide over the bottom of the borehole during drilling operations.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Danny E. Scott, Rudolf C. O. Pessier, Matthew R. Isbell, Nigel Meany, Alain Besson

Patent number: 5562171Abstract: The invention concerns an anti-balling drill bit. The drill bit includes an approximately cylindrical steel body provided at one end with axial arms on which are mounted toothed conical wheels. The bottom of the tool body has a dome shaped profile such as a parabolic profile, whose flanks are joined at an apex located approximately along the axis (x--x) of the tool. The flanks ascend toward the cylindrical wall of the body through gaps between the arms with unbroken surfaces and without edges, each arm bearing at its end at least one extension nozzle for emitting a liquid jet, and nozzles also being mounted in said flanks.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1995Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Alain Besson, Rudolf C. O. Pessier

Patent number: 5397954Abstract: An elastic support device for stator winding end turns of a rotating electrical machine comprises a supporting cage fixed by supports to the clamping plate of the machine. The device has an elastic system for fixing the supports to the clamping plate comprising at least one ring to which the supports are fixed and which is fastened to the clamping plate by fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1993Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Assignee: Gec Alsthom Electromecanique SAInventor: Alain Besson

Patent number: 5301762Abstract: Self-shaping disk-shaped cutting edge of a drilling tool, comprising an outer diamond-impregnated polycrystalline layer (22) applied onto a tungsten carbide layer (24), each cutting edge being mounted on a support (18) which is integral with the body (12) of the drilling tool. The cutting edge and/or its support (18) have areas (26) of least resistance, such as grooves, which are likely to cause successive fractures, thereby forming an acute relief angle (.alpha.) with the rock to be drilled (28).Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1993Date of Patent: April 12, 1994Assignee: TotalInventor: Alain Besson
