  • Patent number: 6536241
Abstract: At least two machines placed side by side, including a series of centrifuging wheels arranged in a cascaded manner and driven in rotation about axes all having substantially in a same direction. Two consecutive wheels rotate in opposite directions, and are simultaneously fed with material to be fiberized. The material is poured onto the first wheel, is accelerated, and is conveyed onto the second wheel, and then optionally onto following wheels, in order to be converted into fibers by centrifugal ejection, the fibers being picked up by a gas stream and collected by a gathering device. The main axes of two adjacent machines are positioned along a non-zero angle adjusted in order for two gas streams emitted by the two adjacent machines to meet and combine. Such machines may find application in the manufacture of products based on mineral fibers.

  • Patent number: 5131935
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for fibring mineral wool by free centrifugation. An auxiliary gas current is generated at a distance from the centrifuging wheels in substantially the same direction as a main gas current which is emitted in the immediate proximity of the centrifuging wheels. This auxiliary gas current is obtained by passing air between the centrifuging wheels and/or through use of a supplementary blower ring. The invention applies particularly to the production of rock wool.

  • Patent number: 4964978
Abstract: A method of forming felts, the fibers of which are disposed in random directions, by depositing the fibers which are carried by a current of gas on a gas-permeable conveyor, the fibers, prior to being deposited, being coated with a binder composition. The felt constituted on the conveyor is subjected to at least one longitudinal compression, the intensity of which is regulated in such a way that no creases form on the surface. The felts obtained are highly resistant to compression, tearing and flexion.

  • Patent number: 4664691
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of mineral fibers from a material melted in a cupola. To regularize the supply of material to the fiber-forming apparatus, the material emanating from the cupola and conveyed to the apparatus passes through a reserve.

  • Patent number: 4433992
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for the manufacture of fibers from attenuable materials, such as glass making materials, by centrifugation. In a process in which the attenuable material is directed onto the peripheral surface of a centrifugation wheel which is enveloped by a gas current produced by a blowing crown, the invention comprises the projecting onto the fibers of a liquid composition from a centrifugation element, the projection being carried out close to the wheel in the form of drops which penetrate and are atomized by the gas current. The apparatus of the invention includes a projection element rotating with the centrifugation wheel for centrifugal delivery of the drops of liquid composition. The invention provides a very uniform treatment of the fibers, particularly by means of liquid binder compositions.
