  • Publication number: 20110019675
Abstract: A method and core network node for establishing a connection between a first access node and a second access node. The first access node sends to a first core network node, a connection establishment request that includes a set of framing protocol parameters for the framing of information to be sent over an interface between the first access node and the first core network node. The first core network node stores the parameter set and initializes a connection to a further core network node according to the framing protocol. If the further core network node is not connectable to the second access node, connections are successively made to additional core network nodes until reaching a final core network node connectable to the second access node. The final core network node initializes the connection to the second access node, which stores the parameter set. The connection is then established between the first access node and the second access node utilizing the parameter set.

  • Patent number: 7792119
Abstract: A method of establishing a connection between a first access node and a second access node via a core network having a first core network node, further core network nodes, and a final core network node. The first access node sends an access request to the first core network node, which stores a set of framing information parameters received in the access request. The first core network node initializes the connection to a further core network node and sends the parameter set together with an indication that transparent transmission is to be utilized after connection establishment. The initialization of the connection and storing of the parameter set and the indication is performed stepwise in further core network nodes until the final core network node is reached. The final core network node initializes the connection to the second access node, which stores the parameter set and the indication.

  • Patent number: 7715837
Abstract: Plural communication connections are established between an external network and subscriber units by way of a an access network. The subscriber unit connection is supported by plural nodes. When a failure is detected in a node, those subscriber unit connections affected by that failure are identified. A message identifying those subscriber unit connections affected by the failure is sent to one or more other nodes. Affected subscriber unit connections identified in the message are released. Those unaffected connections not included in the message are maintained.

  • Patent number: 6961571
Abstract: In a radio access network, a SRNC relocation procedure (100, 100?) is performed for relocating a role of a serving radio network controller (SRNC) for a telecommunications service involving a user equipment unit (UE) from a first radio network controller (261) to a second radio network controller (262). In accordance various modes of the SRNC relocation procedure, the first radio network controller signals to the second radio network controller information for linking transport channels utilized for the service with a radio access bearer (RAB) for the service. In a first mode of the invention, the signaling links a dedicated transport channel (DCH) utilized for the service with a radio access bearer (RAB) for the service. In second through fourth modes of the invention, during the SRNC relocation procedure the signaling links uplink and downlink transport channel (TrCH) IDs with the radio access bearer (RAB) identifier.

  • Publication number: 20040100914
Abstract: In a method for the establishment of a connection between a first node (RNC1) and a second node (RNC2), both are connectable to a core network which comprises interconnected core network nodes (CN1, CN2). The first node (RNC1) signals a call request to a first core network node (CN1). If the first node is an access node, it sends an initialization according to a framing protocol, wherein a set of parameters for the framing of information sent over the interface between the first access node (RNC1) and the first core network node (CN1). If the first node is no access node, a first control server (MSC1) defines said set of parameters. The set of parameters is transmitted to the first core network node (CN1) and the first core network node (CN1) stores the parameter set. The first core network node (CN1) initializes the connection (Co) to a further core network node according to said protocol and the further core network node stores the parameter set.

  • Patent number: 6618589
Abstract: A method for performing Cell-Updates or URA-Updates in a mobile communication system is disclosed, whereby a User Equipment (UE) sends a Cell-Update message or URA-Update message to an SRNC. The-transported Cell-Update message or URA-Update message includes a sequence counter which is incremented each time the UE sends such a message to the SRNC. The SRNC stores the value of the sequence counter for each Cell-Update message or URA-Update message received and acknowledged. If the SRNC receives a Cell-Update message or URA-Update message with a corresponding sequence counter value'that is lower than the sequence counter value stored for the previously received Cell-Update message or URA-Update message, then the SRNC ignores the received Cell-Update message or URA-Update message. Also, the SRNC does not store the sequence counter value for the ignored, received Cell-Update message or URA-Update message.

  • Patent number: 6600917
Abstract: A network prepares a capabilities message which is broadcast by a base station to advise mobile user equipment units of services (radio access technology type, generation, and radio frequency band) supported by the base station. The capabilities message includes a bitmap which contains, for each potential service, a bit indicating whether that service is supported. In addition, the capabilities message contains preferred network identifiers. These preferred network identifiers correspond to the preferred network(s) available for each supported service. In addition, a handover requirements message provides the user equipment unit with a bitmap indicating the services for which the base station requires the user equipment unit to make handover measurements and reports.

  • Patent number: 5960356
Abstract: A first location update is performed whenever a mobile station enter a particular location area. Thereafter, in the even that the mobile station enters a designated home zone within the location area, a second location update is again performed to inform the serving mobile switching center (MSC) that the mobile station is currently located within the designated home zone. All paging messages for subsequent incoming calls are then broadcasted only within the cell areas associated with the designated home zone.

  • Patent number: 5953663
Abstract: An incoming call towards a ported telecommunications terminal is routed to the donor telecommunications node associated with the dialed directory number without first performing a number portability database (NP-DB) query. Upon determining that the telecommunications terminal associated with the specified called party directory number has been ported, a signal querying the NP-DB is transmitted by the donor node. In response, the NP-DB provides a network address representing the gaining telecommunications node to the next-to-last (N-1) switch. Utilizing the received network address, the N-1 switch releases the first call connection with the donor telecommunications node and reroutes the call connection to the gaining telecommunications node associated with the received network address.
