  • Patent number: 4968934
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the measurement of the displacement, and if desired, the force on movable equipment in the production pipe of a pumped well, for example, a pump rod or sucker rod near the pump at the bottom of a well. The force on the rod is measured with a load sensing device connected to a lower rod. The displacement is measured by creating equally spaced apart magnetic marks or poles on the internal wall of the production pipe, detecting the marks, and then erasing the marks, so they do not interfere with marks created and detected when the direction of displacement is reversed. A new mark is created each time a mark is detected, and the equal displacement distance between detected marks is compared with the corresponding elapsed time to determine the displacement and velocity of the rod. A diagram of force-displacement can be made from the measurement data to enable the pump, or other movable equipment to be operated at optimum conditions.

  • Patent number: 4938077
Abstract: Improvement for measuring fluid flow with an orifice meter. The device to measure flow in a conduit includes an orifice of variable section defined by two moveable plates in contact with each other, and which can be positioned with the orifice coaxial with the conduit. The plates are movable by equal translations in opposite directions. Each plate has an opening, and edges of the repective openings which face each other have a cutout in the shape of a right angle isosceles triangle. The bisector of the right angle cutout of each plate is parallel to the direction of translation of the plates and intersects the axis of the conduit. The device permits treating with the same precision, the measurement of flow having variations of a large range.

  • Patent number: 4937558
Abstract: A device and system for detecting the existance of fluid flow from a fluid source to a pipeline includes a cylinder with an inlet at a first end and a lateral outlet. A piston in the cylinder is moveable from a no-flow position abutting the first end in which it is maintained by a spring, to a flow position in which the piston at least partly opens the lateral outlet, by fluid flowing from the inlet to the lateral outlet. A magnetic switch detects the no-flow position of the piston, and actuates a radio transmitter to send a no-flow condition alarm. The device is used to detect interruptions in the supply of additives to oil and gas pipelines.

  • Patent number: 4389880
Abstract: An erodible sonde for detecting sand in the gas conveyed through a pipe. Such a sonde is constituted by a thin aluminium tube, one end of which communicates with a device for measuring the pressure outside the pipe and the other end of which is closed, the inner wall of this tube being in contact with a discontinuous prop or support means such as a steel spring with contiguous coils. Such a device allows early detection of the intrusion of sand in the gas.
