Patent number: 8354270Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention provides a-method for performing a lateral flow assay. The method includes depositing a sample on a test strip at an application region, detecting a first detection signal arising from the test strip in the first detection zone, and generating a baseline for the first measurement zone by interpolating between values of the detection signal outside of the first measurement zone and inside of the first detection zone. The method may include locating a beginning boundary and an ending boundary for the first measurement zone on the test strip. Additional detection zones having measurement zones may also be incorporated with the embodiment.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2007Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Assignee: Relia Diagnostic SystemsInventors: Alan J. Publication number: 20090145568Abstract: A method of making a wear and fatigue resistant component of a power tool (e.g., a clutch) includes providing a quantity of base steel and a quantity of alloying elements to be added to the base steel to form a desired alloyed grade of steel. The base steel and alloying elements are combined and melted to produce a molten alloyed steel (e.g., SAE 9310 or AISI M2). The molten alloyed steel is cast using a near-net-shape investment casting process to form a component of a power tool. An edge of the component is pre-radiused. and the component is case hardened after the edge of the component has been pre-radiused. In one implementation, the component is a clutch that has a lifespan of at least twice a lifespan of a second clutch that has not been pre-radiused prior to case hardening.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2009Publication date: June 11, 2009Applicant: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Bimal Kumar Chaterjee, Alan Phillips, John Robert Kriaski, Daniel Paxton wall

Publication number: 20080047150Abstract: An adjustable reciprocating saw has the ability to adjust the orientation of the saw blade in relation to the rest of the tool. The saw blade can pivot about two transverse axes, one parallel with and one perpendicular to the reciprocating motion axis of the saw blade. The portions of the saw's housing which rotate relative to one another are attached with a rotating joint comprising a pin and groove design. Rotation locks selectively prevent rotation of the saw blade about each axis. The rotation locks can be released through simply depressing buttons on the saw. A rear internal bearing increases the durability and decreases the size of the saw. A keyless adjustable shoe is mounted to the saw.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Alan Phillips, John Schnell, John Beville
