  • Patent number: 9438665
Abstract: A system that implements distributed storage may schedule and track control plane operations for performance at the distributed storage service. Information may be maintained for control plane events detected at a distributed storage system. Resource utilization for currently performing control plane operations and currently scheduled control plane operations of the distributed storage system may be determined. The information about detected control plane events may be analyzed to schedule control plane operations to be performed in response to detecting the control plane events. • Patent number: 9439167
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location include receiving reported signal strengths or other attachment indicator values from a mobile station. The reported signal strengths are compared with characteristic received signal strength values in a coverage area of a mobile network. A mobile switching center determines if a local function is requested and initiates a location estimation process by a mobile location module (MLM). The MLM receives the reported signal strength contours associated with the attachment points. Based on a comparison of the reported attachment indicator values with characteristic values, the MLM provides a mobile location estimate.

  • Patent number: 9438615
Abstract: Among other things, traces are received of activities of an online user who is associated with an entity. By analysis of the traces a security state of the entity is inferred. Also, a map is generated between (a) technical assets that contribute to security characteristics of respective entities and (b) the identities of the entities that are associated with the respective technical assets. At least part of the generating of the map is done automatically. A user can be engaged to assist in the generating of the map by presenting to the user through a user interface (a) data about the technical assets of entities and (b) an interactive tool for associating the technical assets with the identities of the entities.

  • Patent number: 9434572
Abstract: A method is disclosed for reducing feed rate variations when unwinding a web material to transport the web material away from the parent roll at a web takeoff point where the feed rate variations are induced by parent roll geometry variations. The method utilizes calculated and measured data and selected adjustment percentages to make suitable improvements in the driving speed for an out-of-round parent roll to get closer to a relatively constant feed rate. By dividing the parent roll into 1, 2, . . . n sectors, the data can be refined to a relatively high degree taking into account high speed data processing capabilities as well as operating system response times to make appropriate driving speed adjustments.

  • Patent number: 9438959
Abstract: A method and system for watching video and playing games in a mobile communication device are described in which video content is received from a network television channel and, based on the orientation of the mobile communication device and the device type, the video content and/or a game may be displayed. When in a portrait orientation, the operating mode may be such that the video content and/or the game may be displayed. For a tablet device in a portrait orientation, for example, both the video content and the game may be displayed. When the mobile communication device is changed to a landscape orientation, the operating mode may be different and only one of the video content and the game may be displayed based on whether the mobile communication device was rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise. A rewards program may combine the video-watching and game-playing activities of the user.
