  • Patent number: 9052391
Abstract: A velocity estimation method and system is disclosed. The method may include receiving a location signal indicative of a location of the machine and estimating the velocity of the machine based on a change in the location of the machine over a period of time. The method may further include determining a loss of the location signal, detecting a traction device speed of the machine, and selectively estimating the velocity of the machine based on the traction device speed when the location signal is determined to be lost.

  • Patent number: 9052733
Abstract: A method is provided for determining a value for an electrical output of a converter of renewable energy. The method comprises obtaining a signal representing the electrical output of the converter wherein that electrical output has an initial value. The method further comprises applying a pulse signal to the signal representing the electrical output, wherein the pulse signal comprises a positive portion and a negative portion. The method further comprises obtaining a measurement of electrical power produced by the converter during application of the pulse signal, removing the pulse signal and then obtaining a measurement of electrical power produced by the converter in the absence of the pulse signal. An error value is determined from the obtained electrical power measurements and that error value is applied to the initial value to obtain a target value for the electrical output of the converter.

  • Patent number: 9051690
Abstract: The present invention provides tissue products having a high degree of stretch and low modulus at relatively high tensile strengths, such as geometric mean tensile strengths greater than about 1500 g/3? and more preferably greater than about 2000 g/3?. The combination of a tough, yet relatively supple sheet is preferably achieved by subjecting the embryonic web to a speed differential as it is passed from one fabric in the papermaking process to another, commonly referred to as rush transfer.

  • Patent number: 9052070
Abstract: A light module includes one or more LEDs coupled to a circuit board, a lens disposed over at least one LED, and an adhesive layer disposed between each LED and the lens. A flange extends from at least one side of the lens. The adhesive layer fixes the lens in an optical alignment over the corresponding LED. The adhesive layer includes at least one of a non-permeable layer with an adhesive material on the top and bottom surfaces, a gas-permeable layer with an adhesive material on the top and bottom surfaces, a deposited material, and an over mold material. An alignment tool including one or more optical recesses and one or more alignment features is used in the assembly of at least one of an optical assembly and a light module that includes the optical assembly. The alignment tool facilitates precise alignment of the lenses over the LEDs.

  • Patent number: 9052905
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for minimizing power consumption for operation of a fixed-frequency processing unit. A number of timeslots are counted in a time window where throttling is engaged to the fixed-frequency processing unit. The number of timeslots where throttling is engaged is divided by a total number of timeslots within the time window, thereby producing a performance loss (PLOSS) value. A determination is made as to whether determining whether the (PLOSS) value associated with the fixed-frequency processing unit is greater than an allowed performance loss (APLOSS) value. Responsive to the PLOSS value being less than or equal to the APLOSS value, a decrease in voltage supplied to the fixed-frequency processing unit is initiated.

  • Patent number: 9051025
Abstract: A human-propulsion-system utilizing a telescoping arm lever assembly and an optional pedal assembly to be adapted to or incorporated into other mechanisms including, but not limited to, wheelchairs and vehicles. The arm lever assembly and the pedal assembly can be utilized in combination or independently further being operatively connected to a converter that utilizes gears and clutches to receive the reciprocal movements of the arm lever assembly and the rotational movements of the pedal assembly converting them into a combined unidirectional output. The arm lever assembly utilizes a slide mechanism that correspondingly moves the load end closer to the fulcrum point when the arm lever assembly is extended and correspondingly moves the load end farther away from the fulcrum point when the arm lever assembly is retracted offering a range of adjustable leverages. The arm lever assembly is further rotated left or right to provide a means of (steering) control.

  • Patent number: 9053295
Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for facilitating development of an application by a user for a mobile communications device. A portion of programmatic code provided by the user is retrieved and a classification corresponding to the code is determined. A set of rules comprising a use restriction associated with a protected application component is referenced to determine whether the code classification corresponds to a use restriction. Incident to identifying an associated use restriction, feedback is presented to the user that indicates that the portion of code corresponds to a use restriction.

  • Patent number: 9050787
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses discussed herein provide for localized speed changes of an advancing substrate. Embodiments of a localized speed varying apparatus may include first and second substrate guides positioned upstream and downstream of a processing station, respectively. The substrate guides may utilize orbital motion of guide members to change the length of the substrate within the substrate guides upstream and downstream of the processing station. The changes in substrate length within the substrate guides result in localized speed changes of the substrate between the substrate guides. Coordination between the substrate guides allows for localized speed changes of the substrate passing through the processing station without affecting the speed of the substrate upstream of the first substrate guide and downstream of the second substrate guide.

  • Patent number: 9050086
Abstract: An apparatus for closing a surgical incision comprises left and right base panels, a plurality of closure components, and a plurality of left and right axial supports coupled to the respective base panels. The closure components couple the left and right base panels to each other laterally and have left and right ends coupled to the respective base panels. The closure components are positioned laterally across the left and right panels, the left axial supports are disposed between pairs of left closure component ends, the right axial supports are disposed between pairs of right closure component ends, and the left and right axial supports are offset from one another such that a serpentine arrangement of consecutive closure components and axial supports is formed. The apparatus can be made of antimicrobial materials or materials impregnated with antimicrobial agents. A flexible adhesive cover can be provided over the apparatus when in use.

  • Patent number: 9053167
Abstract: A system that implements a data storage service may store data in multiple replicated partitions on respective storage nodes. The selection of the storage nodes (or storage devices thereof) on which to store the partition replicas may be performed by administrative components that are responsible for partition management and resource allocation for respective groups of storage nodes (e.g., based on a global view of resource capacity or usage), or the selection of particular storage devices of a storage node may be determined by the storage node itself (e.g., based on a local view of resource capacity or usage). Placement policies applied at the administrative layer or storage layer may be based on the percentage or amount of provisioned, reserved, or available storage or IOPS capacity on each storage device, and particular placements (or subsequent operations to move partition replicas) may result in an overall resource utilization that is well balanced.

  • Publication number: 20150151510
Abstract: A composite flame barrier includes at least two layers of nonwoven flame resistant fibers, and at least one active chemical layer including a heat absorbing intumescent or endothermic compound, the active chemical layer being mechanically bound to and at least partially embedded within the nonwoven fiber layers. The composite flame barrier is particularly useful in applications that require a flexible, extended time fire barrier. Such applications include, for example, fuel line, process pipeline and valve protection when transporting combustible liquids; structural steel fireproofing, electrical cable wrap and fire-rated wall assemblies, especially those requiring two, three and four hour fire-ratings, when tested according to ASTM E-119 or similar testing methods and standards.
