The handgrip is installed on the golf club shaft wrapped in a double-sided water activated tape. The method and apparatus utilizes a minimal amount of water to provide an initial grip strength greater than 18 foot-pounds. The apparatus has a shaft retention device, a grip attachment device and a misting device.
