Patent number: 9480393Abstract: A system and method for assessing the functionality of a visual system of the eye using a digital micro-mirror device (DMD) to generate a coded pattern which is illuminated by a light source. Optics project an image of the coded pattern onto the retina of the eye. Sensors detect electrical signals based on the response of the visual system to the image. One or more processors control the DMD and correlate the electrical response from the sensor with the coded DMD pattern to assess the functionality of the visual system.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2012Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: ANNIDIS CORPORATIONInventors: Alan Boate, Jeremy Lloyd Gribben

Patent number: 9131837Abstract: A method and apparatus for imaging the choroid is described. A plurality of choroidal images is captured. The plurality of images is aggregated to generate a single aggregated image with good contrast. Prior to any aggregation, the images may be aligned to remove any displacement caused by saccadic motion between one frame and another, and any images degraded by a blink of the patient can be identified and discarded.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2014Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: Annidis CorporationInventors: Alan Boate, Jeremy Lloyd Gribben, David Alexander Kahn

Patent number: 8855386Abstract: A method for performing registration of multispectral retinal images. Corresponding cross-over points and bifurcation points of blood vessel in an eye are identified in a fixed image and in an offset image. The relative displacement of each point, between the images, is calculated. Based on these relative displacements, the offset of each pixel in the offset image is interpolated and the offset image is transformed into a corrected (distorted) image. Such an image can be used to assess the health of the eye. Further, a fixed image and a offset image of an eye are divided in a tile pattern. The relative displacement of each tile of the offset image with respect to the corresponding tile in the fixed image is calculated. An offset for each tile is calculated and the offset image is corrected as a function of those offsets.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2011Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: Annidis Health Systems Corp.Inventors: Alexei Ioudovski, Alan Boate

Patent number: 8807751Abstract: A method and apparatus for quantitative imaging of the retinal fundus. The method for retinal health assessment comprises imaging the retinal fundus of a patient's eye at different wavelengths within a spectral range and determining spectral reflectivity of the retina for each pixel within a field of view (FOV). The retinal health is assessed based on the spectral reflectivity of the retina. The metabolic and anatomical activity of the eye is monitored to detect, at the earliest stage, activity that could lead to the onset of blinding eye diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, etc.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2013Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Annidis Health Systems Corp.Inventors: David Alexander Kahn, Ian Powell, Alan Boate, Jeremy Lloyd Gribben

Patent number: 7310734Abstract: An improved computer network security system and a personal identifier device used for controlling network with real time authentication of both a person's identity and presence at a computer workstation is provided. A new user is registered to a portable personal digital identifier device and, within the portable personal digital identifier device, an input biometric of the user is received and a master template is derived therefrom and securely maintained in storage. A private key and public key encryption system is utilized to authenticate a user registered to the portable personal digital identifier device. The personal digital identifier device verifies the origin of a digitally signed challenge message from the network security manager component. A digitally and biometrically signed challenge response message is produced and transmitted by the personal digital identifier device in response to the verified challenge message.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2001Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Alan Boate, Brian Reed

Publication number: 20060290519Abstract: A two-way wireless monitoring system tracks the location of badged users or objects within a facility, and accordingly provides a variety of services relevant to the badge location and ID. The system comprises a plurality of beacons bearing beacon IDs distributed throughout the facility, a portable badge having a badge address, a base-station having access to a central unit via a data network. Each beacon periodically broadcasts the respective beacon ID, for being picked up by the badge when being nearby. The base-station polls the badge to receive the beacon IDs of the nearby beacons, and then uploads such beacon IDs to the central unit via the data network. Finally, the central unit estimates the badge location and decides on triggering an event within the facility based on the estimated badge location.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2006Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventors: Alan Boate, David Ozsvari

Patent number: 6432602Abstract: A transfer printing process is provided which both uses conventional equipment, and which can be used to add second level printing to an existing document such as a passport. All of the information to be applied in a second level printing procedure to a base sheet is assembled as a complete image. The image is printed in reverse, as a stable mirror image, onto the coated surface of a release paper by a conventional laser printer. The release paper carrying the reversed image and the base sheet are then placed into a heated press, with the image adjacent the base sheet. By the use of heat and pressure the image is transferred from the release paper onto the base sheet. The release paper is then removed, leaving the second level printed image on the base sheet.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1999Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Ait Advanced Information Technologies CorporationInventors: Gary van Beek, Randall Hayman, Alan Boate
