  • Patent number: 7257842
Abstract: A malware detection system seeking to identify computer viruses, worms, Trojans, banned files and the like acts to determine from the file name, file size and storage location of a computer file being tested, whether that computer file potentially matches a specific known malware free computer file stored within a list of such specific known malware free computer files. If a match occurs indicating that the candidate computer file is potentially the specific known malware free computer file, then this is confirmed by calculating a checksum of the candidate computer file and comparing this against a stored corresponding checksum of the specific known malware free computer file. If these checksums match, then the candidate computer file can be passed as clean without requiring further time consuming malware detection scanning.

  • Patent number: 7135789
Abstract: Power supplies, supplied with an input voltage to produce output voltages, are controlled in a desired sequence, and their output voltages are monitored, by respective state machines of two or more control units which are coupled in cascade by a bidirectional signal path on which commands and acknowledgements are coupled serially in frames. Within each control unit, each state machine communicates with all of the other state machines, so that the power supplies controlled by a single control unit can include divergent and convergent as well as linear sequence paths. The sequence is linear between adjacent control units, with logical combinations of received and locally-produced commands and acknowledgements. An input state machine in the first control unit in the cascade monitors the input voltage to initiate a power-up sequence.

  • Patent number: 7127631
Abstract: A single wire serial interface for power ICs and other devices is provided. To use the interface, a device is configured to include an EN/SET input pin. A counter within the device counts clock pulses sent to the EN/SET input pin. The output of the counter is passed to a ROM or other decoder circuit. The ROM selects an operational state for the device that corresponds to the value of the counter. In this way, control states may be selected for the device by sending corresponding clock pulses to the EN/SET pin. Holding the EN/SET pin high causes the device to maintain its operational state. Holding the EN/SET pin low for a predetermined timeout period resets the counter and causes the device to adopt a predetermined configuration (such as off) until new clock pulses are received at the EN/SET pin.

  • Patent number: 7109324
Abstract: A process for chemically bonding an odor-encapsulating agent to textiles includes reacting a cyclodextrin with a cross-linking agent capable of forming ether bonds with the cyclodextrin and with the textile material, and curing the textile material treated with a mixture of the cyclodextrin and cross-linking agent. Preferably, the cross-linking agent is imidazolidone, which forms an ether bond with a hydroxyl group on the cyclodextrin and with a hydroxyl group. In textile materials containing cellulose, imidazolidone forms an ether bond with a hydroxyl group on the cellulose. An active agent can be complexed with the cyclodextrin for release. Textiles formed by such a process can comprise an article of clothing adapted to trap odors emanating from a wearer.

  • Patent number: 7102902
Abstract: The AC output from a source is rectified and applied to a resistor/Zener diode circuit connection which determines the magnitude of the rectified voltage applied via a circuit to a first MOSFET device. The inverted output of the first MOSFET device is applied to the gate electrode of a second MOSFET device in a manner such that the second MOSFET device is ON even when the AC output passes through zero. The output of the second MOSFET device is connected to a resistor which determines the magnitude of the load applied to the dimmer.

  • Patent number: 7080273
Abstract: Power supplies are enabled and disabled in sequence by a controller in dependence upon output voltages of the power supplies monitored by the controller. The controller allows proper sequencing of the power supplies when one or more of them is provided on a daughter board, when this is not connected to a mother board on which the controller is provided, by storing information as to any power supply provided on the daughter board, detecting when the daughter board is not connected to the mother board, and in that case enabling the power supplies in sequence independently of any monitored output voltage of such a power supply on the daughter board.

  • Patent number: 7071838
Abstract: A power supply controller has two control units for coupling to primary and secondary sides of controlled power supplies, the units being coupled via a transformer which couples signals between the units, a power supply voltage for the secondary-side unit being derived from signals coupled from the primary-side unit. Initially signals are coupled from the primary unit with an increasing duty cycle to charge a secondary-side power supply capacitor. Subsequently signals are coupled in signal frames in alternating directions between the units, each signal frame from each unit indicating whether or not signal frames are correctly received from the other control unit. The signal frames also provide for downloading information for the control units, and other status signals and commands and acknowledgements.

  • Patent number: 7049870
Abstract: A digital controller for a DC converter has a timing and control unit which produces a control pulse signal with varying duty cycle and frequency in accordance with pulse on- and off-times determined by digital values read from a look-up table addressed via an A-D converter in dependence upon an input voltage for the DC converter. The stored digital values are such that a period of the control pulse signal varies over a range of about two-thirds to about four-thirds of a nominal value. Closed loop feedback control can be added by modifying addressing of the look-up in dependence upon an error signal from the DC converter output voltage, with scaling depending on the input voltage.

  • Patent number: 7045869
Abstract: A semiconductor wafer having a matrix array of micro-mirrors comprises a component substrate carried on a base substrate. The component substrate comprises a membrane layer in which the micro-mirrors are formed and a supporting handle layer. The base substrate comprises a base layer from which a plurality of pedestals extend upwardly therefrom into cavities in the handle layer corresponding to the micro-mirrors. Each pedestal carries electrodes for co-operating with the micro-mirrors for tilting thereof. Conductors through vias in the pedestals connect the electrodes to electrically conductive tracks on a bottom surface, and in turn through conductors through vias to addressing terminals for addressing the electrodes.

  • Publication number: 20060039699
Abstract: Optical networks as defined by the IEEE 802.3ah standard suffer from Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) that causes data transmission at a first optical wavelength to interfere with broadcast video transmission at a second optical wavelength in single mode optical fibers. The problem is exacerbated when data is not being transmitted across the network; and instead, an idle pattern transmission is being transmitted in order to keep the network synchronized. The repetitive nature of the idle pattern transmission leads to the SRS optical interference effect. This optical interference effect is mitigated when countermeasures are implemented to modify the idle pattern transmissions or to transmit random data in place of the idle pattern transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20060025006
Abstract: A retaining system (1) that retains the front portion of a cable (7) in a connector housing (3). A sleeve device (21) has a base (25) with a hole (34) through which the cable extends, and has a pair of arms (27) with part-cylindrical inner surfaces that press against the cable to grip it. The arms have rear ends with recess (31). When the sleeve device is pushed fully forward into the connector housing, a bridging device (23) is pushed through an opening (15) into the housing. Legs (37) of the bridging element are inserted into the arm recesses (31) and prevent pull-out of the sleeve device and cable.
