Patent number: 8679075Abstract: A system and method for automatically delivering an infusate to a patient is disclosed. The system includes an infusion set and an infusion device. A signaling component disposed on an infusion set component identifies an administration protocol for the infusion set. A detection device operatively connected to the infusion device detects the signaling component and identifies the administration protocol. The infusion device is then configured to operate according to the administration protocol.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2006Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignees: Baxter International Inc., Baxter Healthcare S.A.Inventors: Kent Lurvey, Alan Brundle, Troy Wert, Peter Bojan, John Darvasi, Peter Tomicki, Craig Sandford, Thomas McGraghan

Patent number: 7338260Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for controlling the input electrical current to an infusion pump stepper motor based on predetermined torque requirements. The system can include a motor controller and a non-volatile memory containing expected load torque values throughout a pump cycle. Responsive to the expected load torque values, the motor controller provides the stepper motor with a varying electrical current for overcoming load torque at each point in the pumping cycle. Additional factors can also be considered for varying the electrical current. These factors include, but are not limited to, temperature, pressure, and elapsed operating time.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2004Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Assignee: Baxier International Inc.Inventors: Alan Brundle, Tim Allen, Son Dao

Patent number: 6213723Abstract: A medical infusion pump is disclosed which provides for greatly improved accuracy in the delivery of medicaments to a patient. Among the various features included in the instant invention is a pumping body which serves to deform and reform a tube so as to maintain the initial cross-section thereof and thereby preserve the output accuracy of the pump. Also disclosed with regard to the pumping body is a wholly mechanical synchronization of the pumping body and valves associated therewith and coactive with the aforementioned synchronization a mechanical linearization of output of the pumping body per each pumping cycle. Additionally, several features which serve to enhance the utility of the instant invention are also included therein among which is an associated assembly operative to automatically load or disload a tube or IV set into or out of the pumping body.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1998Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: Hal Danby, Geoff Hutchins, Thomas McGraghan, Jon Plumb, Mark Harris, Stuart Page, Alan Brundle, Tim Allen, Ralph H. Patent number: 6129517Abstract: A medical infusion pump is disclosed which has a tube present sensor that determines the position of the tube within a pumping body. The tube present sensor having a pivotable sensor arm with a blade which engages the tube. The pivotable sensor arm having a sensor flag which actuates an optical switch to signal that the sensor arm is in engagement with the tube. The sensor exchanges positional information with a pump controller to affect operation of the pump.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1998Date of Patent: October 10, 2000Assignee: Baxter International IncInventors: Hal Danby, Thomas McGraghan, Jon Plumb, Alan Brundle, Martin Monaghan, Svante Eric Myren
