  • Patent number: 6423277
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus that uses microwave energy to produce highly active forms of oxidizing compounds that react with nitric oxide and other lower valence components in gaseous streams to form compounds that can be readily removed by conventional pollution abatement processes. An oxidation chamber is used to simultaneously expose the oxidizing compound to microwave energy and contact it with the gaseous stream. The present invention provides a reliable, cost effective means of oxidizing pollutants into forms that can be effectively removed using existing pollution abatement devices.
