  • Patent number: 5013872
Abstract: A cable clamp for use in an electrical box or the like for locating, holding and grounding cables fed into the box and through the clamp. The cable clamp is mounted within the electrical box adjacent the knock-out openings using a single fastener to retain one or two sheathed cables. The cables are clamped between walls of the clamp which includes an end abutment wall having a pair of apertures through which the conductor wires are fed. The abutment wall positionally locates the sheath of the cable. The clamping walls are brought together to retain the cable as the single fastener is tightened. The clamping walls include inner ribs which receive maximum clamping force via a stiffener flange and a small bearing surface to securely engage and position the cable. The cable clamp is integrally formed from a single piece of material, preferably steel.

  • Patent number: 4936396
Abstract: A molded junction box is shown having four sidewalls, a closed bottom, an open top, and clip receiving columns on two opposing sidewalls. The clip receiving columns each have an aperture therein with four sidewalls and four sloping surfaces that join the four sidewalls to a clip receiving surface at the open top of the junction box. A U-shaped clip is received within the aperture whose sloping surfaces aid assembly and provide a guide for the fastener insertion.

  • Patent number: 4436952
Abstract: A cable clamping device is integrally formed with a plastic electric box such as a switch box or the like. This clamping device is in the form of a finger member which is resiliently hinged to the box at one end thereof, and which resiliently moves on this hinge towards the interior of the box when urged by a cable end pressed against the outer wall of the clamping device. With such urging, the cable is permitted by the finger member to enter the box and is clamped between the finger and a wall of the box. A tab is provided on the free end of the clamping finger for use in prying the finger away from the cable. Stops are further provided along the inner wall of the finger clamp operating in conjunction with flat strip members which extend from an inner wall of the box to limit the inward travel of the finger clamp, thereby preventing overbending thereof.

  • Patent number: 4332330
Abstract: An electrical cut-in box particularly for use as a switch box or the like in remodeling wiring where access to the wall studs is difficult and the box must be clamped between the inner and outer surfaces of the wall. The box employs a pair of clamping members formed from folding side cleats, screws which threadably engage the cleats, and a bracket assembly for supporting each screw and its associated cleat on the side walls of the box. The bracket assemblies are pre-assembled and have a flat surface from which a prong extends at an angle which enables insertion of the assembly into the box through an opening formed therein but which prevents the screw and cleat from separating from the box during shipping or handling. Each bracket assembly has a hook which extends from the top portion thereof and engages a strap formed along the top wall of the box which keeps the screw along the side of the box while the clamp is being tightened thereby.

  • Patent number: 4167648
Abstract: An electrical junction box particularly suitable for fabrication from molded plastic has a generally rectangular horizontal cross-section with a flat bottom wall, a pair of oppositely positioned flat side walls substantially parallel to each other, and a pair of end walls which are positioned opposite each other in a substantially parallel relationship, and which run between the edges of the side walls. A pair of hollow post members having a U-shaped lateral cross-section extend upwardly from opposite edges of the bottom wall along the opposite inner surfaces of the end walls. Each of these hollow post members has a bridge structure for supporting a fastener extending across the top thereof, this bridge structure having an aperture formed in its center for permitting the passage of an attachment screw.

  • Patent number: 4135633
Abstract: An electrical junction and outlet box is formed from a side wall fabricated from an elongated flat strip bent into a desired geometric shape, with its ends joined together by means of a dovetail joint which is appropriately staked to make for a tight joint. A bottom for the box is formed by a flat plate shaped in the same geometric shape as the side wall. The side wall and bottom plate have alternate lip and indented portions formed around their edges, the lip portions of each of these members fitting within the indented portions of the other. The bottom plate has projections formed along the edges of the inner surfaces of the indented portions thereof which facilitate the location of the bottom plate against the bottom edge of the side wall immediately prior to welding. Mating projections on the side wall and the bottom plate appear opposite each other to form weld points for joining the side wall and the bottom plate together.
