  • Publication number: 20200021097
Abstract: A termination assembly for an umbilical comprising a chamber through which pass one or more tubes extending from the umbilical, the chamber containing a filler material, wherein at least one tube is provided with an anchor for securing the at least one tube in the filler material, the anchor comprising a shape memory material. A method of making a termination assembly for an umbilical. The method comprises the steps of: (a) providing an anchor for mounting onto one of the tubes, the anchor comprising a shape memory material in a second phase and comprising an aperture which is in a second shape which the tube can pass through, (b) sliding the anchor onto the tube by passing the tube through the aperture, (c) allowing the shape memory alloy to undergo a phase change in which at least some of the second phase converts to a first phase such that the aperture returns towards a first shape which the tube cannot pass through, the anchor thereby gripping the tube, and (d) adding a filler material to the chamber.

  • Patent number: 9159469
Abstract: An umbilical for use in the offshore production of hydrocarbons, and in particular a power umbilical for use in deep water applications, is described comprising a plurality of longitudinal strength members, wherein at least one longitudinal strength member comprises rope comprising high strength organic fibers having a tensile modulus >100 GPa. In this way, the or each longitudinal strength member being such a rope achieves the synergistic benefit of favorable mechanical properties in the axial direction, with weight reduction and other favorable mechanical properties, especially during tensioning or the like of the umbilical, more especially during manufacture, installation and/or repair. With weight reduction, longer umbilicals for deeper water can be made and used.

  • Patent number: 9010439
Abstract: An umbilical for use in the offshore production of hydrocarbons, and in particular to a power umbilical for use in deep water applications is described, comprising a plurality of longitudinal strength members, wherein at least one longitudinal strength member comprises rope enclosed within a tube. In this way, the or each longitudinal strength member being a rope and tube combination achieves the synergistic benefit of favorable mechanical properties in the axial direction, with favorable mechanical properties in the radial direction during tensioning or the like of the umbilical, especially during installation.

  • Patent number: 7560234
Abstract: Nucleotide or amino acid sequences that may be used in the detection and/or identification for an ochratoxigenic fungus or in the construction of an atoxigenic strain of an ochratoxigenis fungus. The fungus may be of the genus Aspergillus, species carbonarius, niger, alliaceus, or foetidux. The fungus may also be of the genus Penicillium, species verrucosum.
