Patent number: 8595775Abstract: A system and method of accessing digital video broadcasts within an information handling system is disclosed. In one form, a digital video broadcast processing system can include a digital video broadcast receiver module operable to process a first digital video broadcast data received within a multiple channel digital video broadcast signal and to output the first digital video broadcast data to an interconnect bus of a computer system. The digital video broadcast processing system can also include a communication interface operable to be removeably coupled to an interconnect bus interface of the computer system. The communication interface can be operable to communicate the first digital video broadcast data, including an interconnect dependent data format, from the digital video broadcast receiver module to a digital video processing application of the computer system.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2011Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Dell Products, LPInventors: Alan E. Patent number: 8280433Abstract: Systems and method are disclosed for internal matching and configuration of radio frequency communication modules and antenna systems within a portable information handling system to help alleviate contentions among wireless communication technologies. A database stores operational information associated with wireless communication radio modules and antenna systems. A central control and switching module then matches and configures antenna systems and communication modules based upon stored operational information. The stored information can include device requirements, regional communication requirements, communication protocols and/or any other desired operational information. Flexibility is thereby provided for wireless communications, and worldwide intelligent access is allowed to radio frequency (RF) spectrums while adhering to localized spectrum and regulatory policies.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2007Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Liam B. Quinn, Alan E. Sicher

Patent number: 8050705Abstract: An improved method and system for removing operating restrictions associated with a predetermined subscriber identity module (SIM) from a wireless device. A user is allowed to securely log onto a Web site that contains support information on subscription plans, billing, termination, penalties, and device-to-SIM unlocking. After satisfying any outstanding contract terms and payment of termination or device unlock fees, the user initiates a device-to-SIM unlock procedure. A client application on the wireless device securely transfers subscription, system, and SIM information to a device-to-SIM unlock system which uses the information to generate appropriate unlock codes. The unlock codes are then securely transferred to the client application, which processes them to remove operating restrictions associated with the predetermined SIM from the device and allow it to thereafter implement a plurality of SIMs.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2006Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Alan E. Sicher, Pratik M. Mehta

Publication number: 20080090611Abstract: Wireless functionality is provided to desktop information handling systems by a module sized to fit as a storage drive bay component, such as a flexbay. The wireless functionality includes wireless personal area networking that supports peripherals, such as Ultra-Wideband or Bluetooth devices, or local area networking. An antenna for wireless processing components is disposed at the front portion of the module to provide optimal reception. A standardized information handling system interface is disposed at the rear of the module located to connect with the information handling system chassis. Additional functionality may alternatively be included in the module, such as a 12-in 1 card reader having interfaces at the front of the module to interact with memory cards or other devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2006Publication date: April 17, 2008Inventors: Pratik M. Patent number: 6157845Abstract: A method and device are provided for of supporting a plurality of mobile station operation modes in a wireless communication system by user control. Presently, communication protocols exist for supporting end user equipment which operates in a single mode of operation. However, it is desirable to combine protocols from various technologies to form end user equipment which operates in multiple modes of operation. Thereby, the present method allows the mobile station to operate in a multi-mode environment where a user can invoke a certain mode.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1998Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Raymond C. Henry, Alan E. Sicher, Karl-Erik Andersson, John Diachina, Lars Bilstrom, Steven Prokup

Patent number: 5603084Abstract: A cellular radiotelephone which includes a programmable memory location which is programmed with a unique initial identification number is remotely programmed by providing the initial identification number to a cellular system, and establishing a page from the cellular system to the radiotelephone using the initial identification number to identify the radiotelephone. Data, including a mobile identification number, is transmitted during the page, and the programmable memory location is programmed with the mobile identification number. Accordingly, the radiotelephone can be conveniently programmed after purchase from a remote location. In addition, the initial identification number may comprise predetermined digits chosen from the electronic serial number.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1995Date of Patent: February 11, 1997Assignee: Ericsson Inc.Inventors: Raymond C.
