Patent number: 6895641Abstract: The closure device (121) includes a first fastening strip (130), a second fastening strip (131), a slider (132) adapted to be slidably disposed on the fastening strips. The slider (132) facilitates the occlusion of the fastening strips when moved towards a first end thereof. A first detent (137) is located at the first end of the fastening strips. The slider (132) includes a housing having a protrusion (5300) for engaging the first detent (137) of the fastening strips when the slider (132) is moved to the first end of the fastening strips. The protrusion (5300) and detent (137) prevent removal of the slider (132) from the first end of the fastening strips (130, 131) in the longitudinal X axis (102).Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1999Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventor: Alan F. Publication number: 20040111843Abstract: A container (120) includes a closure device (121). The closure device includes interlocking fastening strips (130, 131) and a slider (132) slidably disposed on the fastening strips for facilitating the occlusion and deocclusion of the fastening strips. The slider (132) includes a top portion (140) and first and second side portions (142, 144). The slider additionally includes shoulders that merge into the first and second side portions and prevent the slider from being disengaged from the fastening strips. The slider includes long length front shoulders (150, 156) and long length rear shoulders (162, 164) in conjunction with shorter length front shoulders (152, 154) and shorter length rear shoulders (160, 166). If an upward force (180) is applied to the slider (132), the longer length shoulders are designed to remain engaged with the fastening strips when the side portions of the slider are forced to flex outward.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2003Publication date: June 17, 2004Inventor: Alan F. Patent number: 6728997Abstract: The closure device includes interlocking fastening strips and a slider slidably disposed on the fastening strips for facilitating the occlusion and deocclusion of the fastening strips. The external surface of the slider is designed to alter the way in which the slider will be grasped by the user. By providing outwardly protruding surfaces on the side portions of the slider, the slider will be grasped near the front or back of the slider. Thus, the user experiences a feeling that the slider is easier to move along the fastening strips. In another embodiment, by providing a gripping surface near the top portion of the slider, the slider will be grasped near the top portion of the slider. Thus, the slider will be easier to move and the slider reduces the tearing that may result when too much pressure is applied to the bottom portion of the slider during movement of the slider.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2002Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventors: Alan F. The closure device includes interlocking fastening strips (130, 131) and a slider (132) slidably disposed on the fastening strips for facilitating the occlusion and deocclusion of the fastening strips. The slider includes a separator (133) that facilitates the deocclusion of the fastening strips. The container includes a seal (129) to provide a leak-proof closure by facilitating the occlusion of the closure device (121) after the slider (132) has been moved in the occlusion direction (114) and reached the end of the fastening strips. The seal (129) includes a curved portion that further facilitates the leak-proof closure. Additionally, a tactile indication that the closure device (121) has been fully occluded is given as the separator (133) passes over the seal (129). Similarly, an audible indication may also be provided. The seal may be accomplished by heat sealing, ultrasonic sealing or adhesives that attach the sidewalls together.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2003Publication date: March 11, 2004Inventor: Alan F. Patent number: 6595689Abstract: A closure device (121) with interlocking fastening strips (130, 131) and a slider (132) that establishes a leak proof plastic bag (120). The ends of the fastening strips are heat sealed, melted or otherwise secured together. The fastening strips (130, 131) include a second seal (129) disposed in close proximity to one of the ends of the fastening strips. The second seal (129) is formed by heat sealing to melt the fastening strips together. The second seal (129) prevents the separator (172) of the slider from deoccluding or forming a gap when the slider (132) is at the occluded end. The second seal (129) extends midway up the fastening strips (130, 131) so that the separator (172) moves over the second seal (129) during movement of the slider towards the end.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2001Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventors: Michael G. Patent number: 6581249Abstract: The closure device (121) includes first and second interlocking fastening strips (130, 131) arranged to be interlocked over a predetermined length and a slider (132) which slidably engages the first and second fastening strips. The fastening strips have a longitudinal X axis (160), a transverse Y axis (162) and a vertical Z axis (164). The slider (132) facilitates the occlusion of the fastening strips (130, 131) when moved towards a first end of the fastening strips and deocclusion of the fastening strips when moved towards a second end of the fastening strips. The fastening strips (130, 131) are occluded and deoccluded by moving the first fastening strip relative to the second fastening strip in substantially the vertical Z axis (164). The fastening strips may also move in the Y axis (162), rotate or deflect during occlusion. In addition, the fastening strips may include a locking feature (1244, 1245) to prevent unintentional deocclusion.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2001Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventors: Alan F.
