  • Patent number: 7844608
Abstract: A device, system, and method are directed towards combining a plurality of queries to a database into a combined execution plan. The plurality of queries is received. The queries may be Structured Query Language (SQL) statements. The database may be a relational database. The plurality of queries is transformed into a plurality of parse trees. A determination is made whether the plurality of queries operates on at least the same portion of the same table. If so, then the plurality of query trees is query-optimized. The plurality of query trees are combined into a master query tree based on similar nodes in the plurality of query trees. A split node in the master query tree represents non-similarities between the plurality of query trees. The master query tree is transformed into an execution plan. The execution plan is applied to a database to return at least one result.

  • Patent number: 7188743
Abstract: An apparatus for the aeration of a fluid prior to its consumption includes a container that is adapted to house a quantity of the fluid. A bottom end of a conduit that is open at both ends is attached to the container and is disposed in the fluid. A second opposite upper end of the conduit is disposed above the bottom end and is placed in the mouth of a user. Fluid is drawn up through the conduit by the creation of a partial vacuum when the user sucks on the upper, drinking end. An air infusion opening is provided in the conduit near the upper end above a normal maximum fluid elevation level. The infusion opening allows for ambient air to simultaneously enter into a fluid stream that is being drawn up through the conduit, thereby aerating the fluid prior to its entry into the mouth. If the fluid is especially hot, the ambient air also helps to cool the fluid.

  • Patent number: 6702193
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the tasting of wine includes providing a conduit with an upper end and an opposite bottom end. The bottom end is sealed and preferably solid and it includes a first opening that is disposed slightly above the bottom end. The first opening is adapted to permit the wine, absent any sedimentation, to enter into the conduit when a partial vacuum is created at the upper end. A smaller second opening is provided between the upper end and the first opening that is adapted to introduce a quantity of ambient air into the conduit when a partial vacuum is created. The quantity of ambient air that is introduced is limited by the small size of the second opening to ensure that a partial vacuum sufficient to draw the wine through the conduit is maintained. The ambient air mixes with the wine that is passing through the conduit to aerate the wine in the conduit prior to its tasting.

  • Patent number: 4493603
Abstract: The present wheel chair lift apparatus has a rotatable post at the front of a doorway in the side of a van. A pivotally mounted electric motor rotates this post through a pinion and gear drive at the lower end of the post. A carriage for the wheel chair lift platform is slidable up and down along this post. A vertical lead screw is coupled to the carriage through a ball nut and a lost-motion coupling. The lead screw is driven from an electric motor through gear wheels. The lead screw motor has an electric brake which prevents the screw from turning when the motor is stopped. The lift platform has a pivoted retainer lip at its outer edge which is pulled up before the lift platform can move up or down. Provisions are made for manually moving the platform in case of power failure.

A carriage for the wheel chair lift platform is slidable up and down along this post. A vertical lead screw is coupled to the carriage through a ball nut and a lost-motion coupling. The lead screw is driven from an electric motor through a belt and pulley drive at its upper end. The belt is frictionally restrained to prevent the lift platform from coasting down when the lead screw drive motor is stopped. The lift platform has a pivoted retainer lip at its outer edge which is pulled up before the lift platform can move up or down. The lift platform has a slidable extension for enlarging its effective size when a wheel chair comes on.

  • Patent number: 4046985
Abstract: An apparatus for treating a wafer of semiconductor material so that individual devices which may be simple devices or complete complex integrated circuits defined on the front surface of the wafer can be easily separated from the wafer. The apparatus aligns the wafer to a fixed reference position, inverts the aligned wafer to expose its backside and transfers it with controlled motion to a set position under a laser beam apparatus. The laser beam scans the backside of the wafer to create in the kerf area between each of the devices an easily fractured region. While maintaining the wafer alignment the laser treated wafer may be transferred to a flexible pressure sensitive tape tensioned across the frame which maintains the wafer alignment. The wafer, while on the frame can be tested, fractured into respective individual devices, and selectively removed from the tape.

  • Patent number: 3970819
Abstract: A wafer of semiconductor material having a plurality of units defined on its face is subdivided by treating the wafer, on its back or reverse side, in the kerf regions between the units, where division of the units is desired, such that the material of the wafer in the treated kerf regions is converted to a material having a breaking strength lower than the breaking strength of the semiconductor material.
