  • Patent number: 7478060
Abstract: A method for ordering parts for a machine being serviced within an e-commerce environment transmits diagnostic data from a local computing device at the machine to a host computing device via a network. A part to be replaced within the machine is identified as a function of the diagnostic data. A part identifier is determined as a function of the part and retrofit information stored on the host computing device. The part identifier is transmitted from the host computing device to an order processing device.

  • Patent number: 5999759
Abstract: A toner cartridge is mounted movably on a developer unit of a printing machine. The toner cartridge stores a quantity of toner particles therein. A bar code is provided on the exterior surface of the toner cartridge. The bar code provides information concerning the toner particles within the housing. A bar code reader periodically detects the bar code and transmits information to a processing unit indicating the characteristics of the toner cartridge. This enables discrimination between different toner cartridges, ensuring that the proper toner cartridge is installed in the developer unit of the printing machine. In addition, the processing unit, in response to receiving a signal indicating that the bar code has been detected, provides a signal indicative of the quantity of toner particles remaining in the toner cartridge. This signal is transmitted to a graphical user interface which displays the remaining quantity of toner particles in the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5649024
Abstract: Printing reproductions of a black and white only original document on a digital printer capable of color printing, with selected black and white text portions of the original being printed in a highlight color, wherein the original document uses at least two different black and white text fonts, by forming as by scanning an electronic image of the black and white only original document; selecting at least one font; automatically electronically searching the text of the electronic image to find and electronically designate occurrences of the same selected font to be reproduced in a highlight color by electronically providing a color printing control associated therewith; and printing the electronic image with the digital printer automatically controlled by the color printing control so that the occurrences of the selected font are printed in a highlight color by automatically replacing the black and white original text in the selected font with the highlight color, but with the other text in other fonts printe

  • Patent number: 5010551
Abstract: A technique for problem analysis to diagnose a declared machine fault of a suspected machine fault in a reproduction machine having a control with a touch operative user interface and screen display including the steps of placing the machine in a service mode and entering a fault analysis mode to allow access to a library of fault analysis information, providing the option of troubleshooting the declared machine fault by entering into the control a displayed first fault code, or selecting from a group of categories generally describing a problem area to trouble shoot the suspected machine fault including the steps of selecting one of the group of categories to display a plurality of potential defects related to the selected category in icons and/or text including an associated second fault code, matching one of the displayed plurality of potential defects with the suspected machine fault and entering into the control the associated second fault code, and displaying troubleshooting information related to the s
