Abstract: A manhole assembly including a frame and at least a pair of cover plates that are receivable in and disengageable from the frame to permit selective closing and opening of an aperture, the periphery of which is defined by the frame. The cover plates substantially occupy the aperture when received in the frame. A first cover plate of a pair thereof is smaller than a second cover plate of the pair. The first cover plate is hingeable relative to the second cover plate, while the latter is received in the frame, from a closed position received in the frame to an open position in which a first part of the aperture is open. The second cover plate is removable from the frame, when the first cover plate is disengaged from the frame, to open a second part of the aperture.

Abstract: A covering (10), for an access aperture, comprises a pair (11, 12) of cover plates, of unequal sizes, that are positionable one adjacent the other along a line of juxtaposition (14) to define a generally rectangular covering. The line of juxtaposition (14) extends from one side (24) of the generally rectangular covering to another (26) and is spaced from the diagonal (27) of the rectangular covering that it is proximate.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cast article including a frame that in use of the article defines an aperture; and a further component that is in use retained moveably captive relative to the frame. The method casts the further component and respective first and second frame members, the further component and the frame members being securable together to form the article, and subsequently assembles the frame members and the further component together to form the article. A gully grate results from practicing the method.

Abstract: A drainage assembly (10) comprises a frame (11) for defining at least part of the surface boundary of a surface drainage aperture; and a grating (14) having formed therein a plurality of apertures. The grating (14) is hingedly secured to the frame (11) and is moveable, when so secured, between an operative position in which the grating (14) is contiguous with the frame (11); and an open position in which the grating (14) lies hinged away from the frame (11). The grating (14) includes protruding therefrom a pair of forks (34, 36). The frame (11) includes a pair of journal bearings (37, 38). The forks each have protruding therefrom a respective protuberance (39) that is receivable in a respective journal recess (42) formed in the journal bearings.
