  • Patent number: 6915343
Abstract: An computer program product and a method is presented for diagnosing hardware and software problems on a network computer through the use of a diagnostic adapter card. The diagnostic adapter card is installed in an open slot in the system bus and thus has access to all the network computer electronics and peripherals. Diagnostic programs are run and the results are logged. By analyzing these results, the source of the problem can be determined and reported for service or repair. The diagnostic adapter card contains its own processor, read only memory, random access memory, and interface logic for connecting to the system bus, a set of external wrap cables for peripheral connector testing, and an external reporting device. Some tests require use of a wrap cable to connect two or more ports together. Other tests, such as system bus timing or memory integrity, do not require the use of wrap cables.

  • Publication number: 20030225713
Abstract: A prepayment system for electric power or other utility commodity distribution uses radio frequency identification (RFID) tag technology to store and transfer value (money or KWh) from the retail vendor to the customer, and deliver power to the customer from the power distribution system. The customer purchases power at a retail outlet in the form of a credit to his Card containing an RFID tag. The Card is credited for the amount purchased by the store clerk, using the store's Sales Terminal. The customer takes this Card to his residence or small business and holds it up to the RFID reader/writer sealed into the face of the System Controller. This System Controller is installed at a convenient location near, on or within his premises. Alternatively, he may use an optional Remote Terminal installed inside his premises. In either case, the display associated with the reader/writer indicates to the customer the amount of power remaining.

  • Patent number: 6449145
Abstract: A retention apparatus (hanger) suitable for use with a data processing system that includes a data processing box and a video display is disclosed. The hanger includes a pair of substantially parallel major sides and a pair of substantially parallel minor sides that connect the pair of major sides at their respective ends to define a substantially rectangular aperture suitable for receiving the data processing box. The hanger further includes a hook that has a base portion and a tooth portion connected at an end of the base portion. The base portion extends substantially from and in line with one of the minor sides such that the tooth portion is laterally displaced from one of the major sides with the tooth oriented towards the other minor side. In this configuration the hook enables the hanger to suspend from a groove in the display monitor with the first major side of the hanger in close proximity to a rear face of the video display.

  • Publication number: 20020078170
Abstract: A method and system for reducing network traffic in a data processing network are disclosed. The data processing system typically includes a user station, a boot server from which portions of the user station operating system are retrieved, and an application server from which portions of a user application program are retrieved. In one embodiment, a user station of the data processing system includes a non-volatile storage device. Portions of the operating system and application that are frequently accessed may be downloaded from the appropriate servers and stored in the non-volatile storage device. In one embodiment, the user station may determine which code segments constitute key code segments by recording page fault in a miss table of the user station. The most frequently accessed pages can then be determined for storing in local memory.
