  • Patent number: 10870822
Abstract: A 5-liter bioreactor vessel enables a substantial increase in the volume of biological media that can be cultivated in the vessel compared to conventional designs. Moreover, when agitated at 1.5× the shaking frequency of a conventional 3-liter bioreactor (i.e., 90 rpm versus 60 rpm), the 5-liter vessel achieves a 19% increase in cell aeration without exceeding the maximum shear stress limit for cell viability. The 5-liter vessel optionally includes a plurality of internal baffles configured to disrupt the liquid vortex and reduce the maximum shear stress transferred to biomedia contained within the vessel.

    Assignee: Corning Incorporated
Inventors: David Alan Kenney, Nikolaos Pantelis Kladias, Shang-Pin Kwei, Aravind Raghavan Rammohan, Joseph Christopher Wall, Kathy Marie Youngbear
  • Patent number: 10316281
Abstract: A cell culture apparatus includes cell culture units having cell culture chambers, each with at least one manifold. The manifold connects the cell culture unit to a fluid flow channel. The manifold has a dam which allows liquid to pool in the manifold and allows for the creation of an airspace in the manifold, which reduces hydrostatic pressure inside the apparatus and enables the stacking of multiple cell culture units. Embodiments include cascading manifolds, manifolds having reservoirs, and manifolds having valves.

  • Publication number: 20180221863
Abstract: A pipette tip includes a proximal end having an aperture and a proximal body region having a first internal cavity that receives a pipette member, and a distal end having an aperture and a distal body region having a second internal cavity that in operation receives and discharges a liquid aspirated by the pipette member, where the ratio of the proximal half weight of the pipette tip to the distal half weight of the pipette tip normalized to the total weight of the pipette tip has a value, defined as a thinning constant, wherein the pipette tip has a wall thickness of less than 0.022 inches over the distal region.

  • Publication number: 20150315536
Abstract: A flask for the culturing of cells is disclosed. The cell culture chamber is defined by top and bottom walls connected by side and end walls, one end wall shaped such that media can drain to a bottommost spot thereby allowing for the complete removal of media via a vertically oriented pipette inserted into the interior of the flask body through an open neck.

  • Publication number: 20150017711
Abstract: An integrated cell culture system may include one or more cell culture vessels, manipulation apparatus, pumping apparatus, cell release apparatus, monitoring apparatus, and a control apparatus. The control apparatus may be used to monitor and control the system to facilitate effective cell culturing. The cell release apparatus may be used to release a plurality of cells adhered to the cell culture surfaces of the cell culture vessels.
