  • Patent number: 4161236
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car mounted for guided movement in the hoistway of a building having a plurality of floors. The speed of the elevator car versus its position is monitored in terminal zones adjacent to the terminal floors, as the elevator car approaches each terminal floor. An overspeed signal is generated when an overspeed condition is detected. If the elevator car is traveling towards a terminal floor in a terminal zone but is not set to decelerate and stop at the terminal floor, the conditions for issuing the overspeed signal are modified such that the issuance of the signal is advanced in time, compared with the time at which it would be provided without such modification, with the magnitude of the advancement being inversely proportional to the speed of the elevator car.

  • Patent number: 4161235
Abstract: An elevator system in which the movement of the elevator car is responsive to a comparator which provides an error signal responsive to the difference between the magnitude of a speed pattern signal provided by a speed pattern generator, and a signal responsive to actual car speed. An adjustable impedance device controls the affect of the speed pattern signal on the comparator, with the impedance of the adjustable impedance device being responsive to at least one predetermined parameter of the speed pattern signal.

  • Patent number: 4128141
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car mounted for guided movement in a vertical travel path. A signal related to car velocity is modified by a signal related to car acceleration. The modified velocity signal is utilized in a speed monitoring system which monitors car speed as a function of car position adjacent the travel limits of the elevator car.

  • Patent number: 4096925
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car and counterweight mounted for guided vertical movement in the hoistway of a building. A magnetically operated detector mounted on the elevator car cooperates with a magnetic shield disposed in the hoistway to noiselessly provide signals which indicate when the elevator car and counterweight are in a predetermined collision zone where collision is possible should the counterweight deviate from its normal travel path. The detector also provides signals when the elevator car and counterweight are outside the collision zone, which signals indicate the relative positions of the elevator car and counterweight.
