The handle comprises a handle body having the grip portion shaped for grasping by a hand of the user of the portable terminal, a proximal end of the grip portion for coupling to a housing of the portable computer, and a distal end of the grip portion. The handle has a receptacle connected to the handle body and located in the interior of the handle body, such that the receptacle is adapted for releasably retaining the stylus in the interior of the handle body. The handle body 21 has an aperture for facilitating access of the stylus into the receptacle. The receptacle has at least one arm having a first shaped feature (e.g. protrusion and/or notch/groove) adapted for engaging a second shaped feature (e.g. corresponding notch/groove and/or protrusion) of the stylus for providing the releasable retaining of the stylus when resident in the receptacle.

Abstract: A latch mechanism for releasably securing a cover to a housing of a portable device. The latch mechanism includes a plurality of resilient members for retaining the latch mechanism in a locked configuration. The latch mechanism comprising a latch enclosure of the housing for positioning adjacent to the cover and having a plurality of interior surfaces and a latch body positioned in the latch enclosure and configured for reciprocal movement within the latch enclosure between a closed position and an open position. The latch mechanism uses a first resilient member of the plurality of resilient members positioned between the latch body and a first surface of the plurality of interior surfaces for biasing the latch body in a first direction between the open position and the closed position.

Abstract: A handheld terminal is provided. The handheld terminal includes a housing, a component for operating the handheld terminal, and a pocket for forming, in the housing, a space for holding the component individually and separating the space from a main logic circuit. The pocket has a window for a connection between the component and the main logic circuit. The handheld terminal includes a bezel placed on the component, and a combiner for removable engaging the bezel with the housing.

Abstract: There is provided a housing for a rugged handheld device, which includes: a main housing including: a main circuit board space sealed from an exterior environment, for supporting a main circuit board; and a compartment space for supporting a removable compartment for holding a device component for operation of the handheld device, such as a docking connector board, a display assembly, a keyboard assembly, where the compartment space is sealed from the external environment by a removable compartment cover for sealing the compartment space from the exterior environment, independently from the sealing of the main circuit board space and/or the device component placed into the compartment space.

Abstract: A display assembly for a portable terminal inhibits the penetration of foreign matter from an exterior environment into the interior of the portable terminal. The display assembly includes a display for mounting in an open-faced compartment enclosed by a bottom/top cover plate. A resilient seal component of the display assembly is positioned between the display and the compartment, the seal component including a body including a base portion connected to a top portion by side portions for defining an interior channel for engaging the sides of the display, once received therein. A top portion of the seal component is adapted for overlapping a portion of the top surface of the display and the base portion for overlapping at least a portion of the bottom surface of the display.

Abstract: An assembly comprising an enclosure having a distal end wall and a proximal end wall connected to a pair of sidewalls such that the enclosure walls connect the bottom surface to a top surface having a user interface to define an enclosure interior. The compartment is positioned in the enclosure interior. A cover is included for coupling to the compartment situated in an opening in the bottom surface at a proximal end of the enclosure, such that the cover is configured for grasping by a user with at least one finger. The cover housing includes a cover surface, a pair of cover sidewalls, a proximal cover end wall and a distal cover end wall such that the cover walls extend from the cover surface to define a cover interior. The cover housing also has a mating surface at a base of the cover housing and defined by said walls, such that the mating surface is configured to mate with the bottom surface of the enclosure.

The enclosure has a power source compartment positioned in the enclosure interior. The cover couples to the compartment situated in an opening in the bottom surface. The cover housing of the cover includes a cover surface, a pair of cover sidewalls, a proximal cover end wall and a distal cover end wall such that the cover walls extend from the cover surface to define the cover interior. A magnet is coupled to the cover interior, such that the magnet has a sufficient magnetic field strength for affecting the state of the contacts of a switch. The switch is mounted in the interior of the enclosure, such that the switch is coupled to at least one component receiving power from the power source when positioned in the compartment.

A control coupling is established once the proximal surface is mated with the adjacent surface through engagement of the releasable connection mechanism.
