Publication number: 20230349426Abstract: In some examples, a shaft coupling system may include a first shaft including a disc that is engageable by a second shaft to retain the second shaft with the first shaft when the second shaft is rotated in a first direction, and release the second shaft from the first shaft when the second shaft is rotated in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction. A spring may be mounted to the first shaft to bias the second shaft towards the first shaft when the second shaft is retained with the first shaft. Further, a shaft coupling method may include engaging a second shaft with a disc of a first shaft by rotating the second shaft in a first direction relative to the first shaft, and disengaging the second shaft from the first shaft by rotating the second shaft in a second direction relative to the first shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2023Publication date: November 2, 2023Inventors: Patrick Matz, Manuel Van Venrooy, Alan Norman

Publication number: 20070157940Abstract: The present invention is directed to a cigarette comprising a tobacco rod having a smokable filler material contained within a circumscribing outer wrapping material, and one or more inner wrapping strips positioned between the tobacco rod and the outer wrapping material and extending longitudinally along the tobacco rod. The inner wrapping strips comprise a binder in the form of an alkali metal salt and comprise a total alkali metal content of at least about 30,000 ?g based on the total weight of the inner wrapping strips. The total alkali metal content can be derived from the alkali metal salt binder alone or a combination of the alkali metal salt binder and a second alkali metal additive. The inner wrapping strips can exhibit an ignition temperature of at least about 625° C. and may comprise 1 to about 8 strips, each strip having a width of about 2 to about 10 mm.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2006Publication date: July 12, 2007Inventors: John-Paul Mua, Barbara Arzonico, Melissa Clark, Luis Monsalud, Alan Norman, Rodney Schluter

Publication number: 20050087202Abstract: An apparatus for measuring a property of a cigarette paper wrapper is provided and includes a sampling device having a first chamber portion capable of being engaged with a corresponding second chamber portion to define a sampling area configured to receive the wrapper such that the wrapper spans the sampling area and separates the chamber portions. A first gas source supplies a carrier gas to the first chamber portion and a second gas source supplies a detectable gas to the second chamber portion. An analyzer device in communication with the first chamber portion receives a resultant gas flow that includes the carrier gas and any of the detectable gas entering the first chamber portion through the wrapper. The analyzer device is capable of determining an amount of the detectable gas in the resultant gas flow so as to thereby determine a property of the cigarette paper wrapper, such as a diffusion coefficient with respect to the detectable gas. An associated method is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2003Publication date: April 28, 2005Inventors: Alan Norman, Jason Caudle
