  • Patent number: 6860337
Abstract: A process to lower or raise a drilling rig for transportation wherein the drilling rig includes a mast and a top drive. The process to lower includes the steps of moving the top drive within the mast with a vertical guide and torque reaction mechanism to a locked position and locking the top drive to the mast with a locking mechanism. The mast and the top drive are lowered together from a vertical position to a horizontal position. The combined mast and top drive may then be transported in the horizontal position without disconnecting electrical, mud line or other services.

  • Patent number: 6848515
Abstract: A process to transport and assemble a drilling or workover rig substructure. The process includes the steps of transporting a driller side substructure section and an off driller side substructure section to a rig site so that the sections are spaced from and parallel to each other. A center substructure section is transported to the rig site. The center substructure section is moved into a space between the driller side and the off driller side sections. The center substructure section is thereafter connected to the driller side and to the off driller side subsections. A floor of the driller side substructure and a floor of the off driller side substructure are raised while both connected to the center substructure section from a transport position to a use position while maintaining the floors parallel to the bases.

  • Publication number: 20040134666
Abstract: A process to transport a blow out preventer for a drilling rig having a drawworks wherein the blow out preventer is transported between a storage area and a use position over a wellbore. The process includes the steps of connecting an upper connector end of an elongated running tool to the drawworks of the drilling rig. The elongated running tool is moved in position parallel to the wellbore using the drawworks of the drilling rig. The running tool is lowered so that a stab connection is made between a lower connector end of the running tool and the blow out preventer. The blow out preventer is thereafter moved over and in alignment with the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 6690159
Abstract: A target device is carried by or mounted on a first part movable relative to a second part. The second part has a sensing device including an array of sensors providing outputs responsive to the magnet field of the target device. A processing device receives the outputs of the sensors and calculates relative positions of the two parts based on the outputs.

  • Patent number: 5944418
Abstract: A tank system for storage and agitation of fluids. A tank includes cylindrical walls, a spherical bottom and an open top. A combined cover and walkway above the open top is parallel to the diameter of the cylindrical tank. A vent stack extending from the combined cover and walkway vents fumes from the cylindrical tank. A space is provided between the cover and the open top of the tank for fresh air intake.
