  • Publication number: 20070129013
Abstract: An information handling system includes a wireless subsystem. The wireless subsystem is configured to establish communication with a desired wireless device. The wireless subsystem uses pre-configured information about the wireless device in order to establish communication with the wireless device without an end user providing the information about the wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20060203743
Abstract: An information handling system includes a plurality of access points, a radio network manager, and a database. The access points couple to form a wireless network. Each access point communicates with at least one mobile client. The radio network manager couples to the access points. The radio network manager is configured to dynamically control the operation of the access points. The database couples to the radio network manager and stores information about the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 6134433
Abstract: In a radio telecommunications network, a system and method of providing service differentiation for call forwarding based upon the type of call. The system provides network support that allows the forwarding of calls of different types to appropriate devices for each type of call, as identified by the call's service code. The system determines whether a call to a mobile station is a data call, and if it is a data call, provides the network support for forwarding the call to a different number than voice calls. A Service Type parameter is added to ANSI-41 signaling messages to inform various nodes in the network of the type of call. The network includes a home location register/service control point (HLR/SCP) with a database of call forwarding (transfer) numbers for its served mobile stations. The database records at least one transfer number for each type of service. Service logic in the HLR/SCP associates the type of call with the appropriate transfer number.

  • Patent number: 6112084
Abstract: A system and method of simultaneously conducting a data transfer and a voice call between a mobile station and a radio telecommunications network having a mobile switching center (MSC) which serves the mobile station. A first embodiment includes a landline digital simultaneous voice and data (DSVD) modem associated with the mobile station which generates DSVD source signal and line negotiation protocols. The DSVD source signal and line negotiation protocols are encapsulated into circuit mode Radio Link Protocol (RLP) signals and transmitted to the MSC. An interworking function (IWF) associated with the MSC translates the circuit mode RLP signals into signals in a landline telecommunications protocol. In another embodiment, the voice call is carried over the air interface from the mobile station to the network in one timeslot, and the data transfer is carried in at least one additional timeslot on the same voice channel. In other embodiments, two voice channels may be allocated to the same mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6101398
Abstract: An interface between a dual mode mobile station and a piece of data terminal equipment supports both a logical digital interface and a logical analog interface, with the analog interface passing through a modem. At set-up of either a mobile originated or mobile terminated data/fax call, a supporting dual mode communications network determines whether a digital traffic channel is available on an air interface. If so, the channel is allocated to the mobile station, and data/fax communication with the data terminal equipment occurs using the logical digital interface. Otherwise, an analog voice channel is allocated, and the data/fax communication with the data terminal equipment occurs using the logical analog interface and modem. Within the supporting network, data/fax communications via the digital traffic channel are routed through an interworking functionality that terminates a radio link protocol utilized for communicating over the digital air interface.

  • Patent number: 5570411
Abstract: Call priority is realized in a mobile radio telephone system by ascertaining that a call should be given priority, assigning channels preferentially to a priority call, assigning higher quality channels preferentially to the priority call, and through-connecting the call. Call priority may also be realized by ascertaining that a call should be given priority, assigning channels preferentially to a priority call, allowing a more exhaustive paging for paging a mobile station than would be allowed if the call were not given priority, and through-connecting the call.

  • Patent number: 5355515
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in a cellular mobile radio telephone system for initially setting a time alignment parameter in a mobile station. The method comprises the steps of estimating an optimal time alignment parameter for use during communication on a new traffic channel of a desired base station based on information available before the communication on the traffic channel is established, sending the estimated time alignment parameter to the mobile station, and setting the time alignment value in the mobile in accordance with the estimated time alignment parameter. An apparatus for initially setting a time alignment parameter is also provided according to a preferred embodiment.
