  • Patent number: 4111027
Abstract: The invention provides a tool particularly adapted for working metal. The tool comprises an electromagnetic coil, a pole adapted to be magnetized by the coil, and a work surface pivotable with respect to the pole and operative in use to apply bending force to a work piece held to the pole by magnetic force.Keepers may be provided to be attracted to the pole to hold the work piece. A keeper may be fitted with a cutting blade or punch. The work surface may be part of a body which, when moved from a rest position, causes the coil to be energized and which is urged by magnetic force back to that rest position to de-energize the coil. The body is preferably connected to the pole by a hinge which does not project above a plane so as in no way to hinder metal bending.A tool may magnetically clamp itself to a bench. The tool may have an electrical circuit capable of producing DC for magnetic holding or AC so that the tool may be used as a demagnetizer.

  • Patent number: 4101148
Abstract: A joint between adjacent ends of two pipes arranged to convey liquid under pressure, and which permits relative movement of the pipes, has a first sealing surface of annular form associated with one of the pipe ends and a sealing member supported by the other pipe and movable axially relatively thereto, and having a second sealing surface of annular form which co-operates with the first sealing surface, the sealing member being urgeable away from the first sealing surface by the pressure of liquid within the pipes against a restraining force to provide a clearance between the sealing surfaces which is adequate to permit relative transverse movement of the sealing surfaces to take place without sliding contact, but at the same time provides a high resistance to the flow of fluid between them.

  • Patent number: 4078487
Abstract: A control for a web processing machine such as for a printing press is described for detecting web breaks, faulty web sensors and inconsistent web threading conditions. A logic network is employed to compare web sensor signals with control signals to detect whether the web sensor signals are consistent with what is called for by associated control signals. Station status signals are produced to stop the machine when inconsistent conditions are sensed and cause appropriate web severing. A bypass control network is provided to inhibit the station status signals for slow speed checkout. However, when the machine speed exceeds a predetermined level, the bypass network is automatically deactivated and full machine control protection restored.
