  • Patent number: 7270449
Abstract: Systems, methods and devices for lighting are provided with a reflector with paraboloidal segments. One lighting system includes a reflector having one or more reflector segments. Each reflector segment is substantially paraboloidal and has a central axis of syrmetry. The lighting system also includes an illumination portion having one or more light sources. Each light source corresponds to one of the reflector segments and has a central illumination axis. The central illumination axis is directed toward the corresponding segment and substantially perpendicular to the central axis of symmetry of the corresponding segment.

  • Publication number: 20070164020
Abstract: A shock-resistant and environmentally sealed container comprising a first section and a second section. A latching system for the container comprises a deflectable pin coupled to the first section of the container with a latch coupled to the second section. The latch includes a deflectable pin engaging member. When the deflectable pin engaging member is engaged with the deflectable pin, the deflectable pin absorbs relative movement between the first section and the second section of the container. Another embodiment of the container employs a latch containing a deflectable member. The latch is pivotally coupled to a latch pin that is mounted to either the first section or the second section of the container. The deflectable member is positioned between the latch pin and the latch, and the deflectable member is configured to absorb relative movement between the first section and the second section.

  • Publication number: 20070133200
Abstract: An efficient system and method for zooming the light from a flashlight is disclosed. Multiple refractive lenses are translated in unison to allow zooming of the light while reducing the size and weight of the required lenses. In another aspect, a meniscus lens is used to reduce the amount of light lost from a light-emitting diode (LED). One method includes providing a light source in a housing and translating a lens arrangement substantially along a light path of a light beam generated by the light source. The lens arrangement includes at least two refractive lenses separated by a gap, a size of the gap being maintained during translation of the lens arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20070014108
Abstract: Described are intermediate articles for connecting poles and tools for use in various difficult and/or emergency situations. The intermediate articles comprise a body that includes a first connector for matingly engaging a first mating element disposed on a distal end of a pole at a first angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the pole; opposite the first connector, a second connector for matingly engaging a second mating element disposed on a proximal end of a tool at a second angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the pole; and disposed between the first and second connectors, a receptacle for detachably engaging a removable light source capable of illuminating a tool attached to the pole through the intermediate article.

  • Publication number: 20070002559
Abstract: Battery-powered devices in which an energy consumption unit is associated with a heat conductor coupled to the battery-based power supply are described. A portion of the waste heat generated during operation of the energy consumption unit is transferred to the power supply, particularly to the one or more batteries that comprise the energy source of the power supply. The power supply may contain a housing composed of heat-insulating material. Heating of the batteries or battery housing warms the battery(ies), mitigating functional problems associated with battery operation at low temperatures.
