The cooking apparatus can include a support structure for supporting food, an outer housing having an angled inner sidewall, an inner trough disposed within the outer housing below the support structure, a heating element to generate a flame in operation of the cooking apparatus, and an annular gap between the angled inner sidewall of the outer housing and the inner trough. The annular gap extending from the heating element towards the support structure. The outer housing can include a plurality of layers including a ceramic inner layer. The ceramic inner layer can include METEORITE™ CERAMIC.
