  • Patent number: 8190350
Abstract: A micro-hybrid motor vehicle 2 having an engine 5 started by an electrical starter 6 is disclosed having a starter system that adaptively responds to ageing of an electrical power source such as a capacitor 12 used to power the starter motor 6 so as to maintain engine starting performance. The starter system includes a controller 20 which is programmed to increase the voltage used to charge the capacitor 12 when it is determined that the state of health of the capacitor 12 has degraded.

  • Patent number: 8092187
Abstract: A blade for the use in the generation of power has a leading edge and a trailing edge. A first shell portion of the blade extends from the leading edge to the trailing edge. A second shell portion of the blade also extends from the leading edge to the trailing edge. A root portion of the blade is positioned proximate the wind turbine and a tip portion which extends from the root portion away from the wind turbine. A trailing edge insert is positioned between the first shell portion and the second shell portion proximate the root portion. The trailing edge insert has a surface which extends between and separates the first shell portion from the second shell portion at the trailing edge, such that the insert provides a high lift profile for increased blade efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8041727
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product allows a web service consumer to create an example query which illustrates the web service desired. The example query is compared, element by element, to potentially relevant web services. The difference between each element in the example query and any element in the web service being compared is quantified as a distance metric, based on the relationship between the elements. The relationships might be classified as: exact match, direct synonym, fuzzy synonym, hyponym, hypernym, or no match. The distance metric for each element in the example query is summed to calculate a total distance between the example query and the web service being compared. This sum is an expression of the difference between the example query and the web service being compared.

  • Publication number: 20060149713
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product search a cache database in response to a search request from a user, determine which of the search results is most likely to be preferred by the user, and verify the preferred results against a real-time database. If the verification determines that the preferred results are accurate, then all the search results are provided to the user. If the verification determines that the preferred results are not accurate, then those results are deleted and the remaining results are provided to the user. As a result, the accuracy of the results returned to the user is increased, while queries of the real-time database are utilized only where most useful and are thereby reduced.

  • Publication number: 20050273373
Abstract: The present invention generates a grid of low-priced fare combinations for either a selected departure and return date or a range of departure and return dates. The present invention uses various techniques to reduce processing and delay in generating the grids. The present invention first converts flight itineraries for the selected departure and return dates or the range of dates into the fare domain. The invention discards fare combinations that are not valid for the given travel request. The valid fare combinations are processed to determine which has the lowest fare price. The fare combinations are processed one at a time starting with the cheapest fare combination to determine which of the possible flight itineraries may be covered by the fare combination. The invention may use additional prunning steps to validate the fare combinations prior to application to individual flight itineraries. As each fare combination is matched to a flight itinerary, the grid is populated with this fare combination.

  • Publication number: 20050108032
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of accounting for printing to a sheet of media in a printing device includes recording the type of media actually used, determining an amount of pigment used on the sheet of media, and calculating the cost of printing to the media by adding the cost of the sheet of media actually used and the cost of the pigment used on the sheet of media. The method also includes determining an amortized cost related to the printing device per sheet of media, and adding it to the cost of the media and the cost of the pigment.

  • Publication number: 20030088472
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with certain aspects related to the invention provide product availability information to a requestor via a proxy computer. In one aspect, a proxy computer that acts on the behalf of a seller computer receives product inventory information and one or more inventory control rules provided by the seller computer. In response to an availability request provided by a user, the proxy computer may determine product availability information based on the product inventory information and the one or more inventory control rules. Further, the proxy computer may be configured to update at the product inventory information and/or one or more control rules based on a determination that the seller computer has updated the same information stored in a database.

  • Patent number: 6093295
Abstract: A sensor for measuring the oxygen and/or unburnt fuel content of a combustion gas includes an outer tube (20) sealed at one end by a pellet (17) of oxygen sensitive solid electrolyte. Solid electrolyte (17) has an electrode (21) formed on the outer side thereon. The sensor also includes an inner tube (13) that is sealed by a disc (14) of solid electrolyte. Disc (14) has electrodes (15, 16) formed on the inner and outer surfaces thereof. The internal side of solid electrolyte (17) is electrically connected to electrode (16). Outer tube (20) is provided with apertures (24) and the annular space between outer tube (20) and inner tube (13) is coated with a platinum catalyst (18). In use, combustion gas contacts outer electrode (21). Combustion gas passes through apertures (24) and along the annular space. During passage of combustion gas through the annular space, the combustion gas comes into close proximity with the oxidation catalyst (18) and the oxidation catalyst (18) acts to equilibrate the combustion gas.

  • Patent number: 5591002
Abstract: The nozzle segment includes a vane having a plurality of axially spaced cavities for transmission of a cooling medium. In a closed circuit cooling system, air is transmitted radially inwardly and outwardly through inserts in leading and intermediate cavities, respectively, for flow through holes for impingement cooling of the adjoining vane surfaces. Radial inlet flow of cooling medium to an aft cavity likewise flows through an insert for impingement cooling of the aft cavity walls. The cooling medium flows from the aft cavity into a trailing edge cavity for impingement cooling of the trailing edge. The spent cooling flow passes through a channel in the diaphragm into the wheelspace. In the open air circuit, the spent impingement flow in the leading and intermediate cavities passes through openings in the vane wall for thin film cooling of the vane.
