  • Patent number: 5926807
Abstract: A method and system for effectively representing a result set in a limited amount of memory is provided. The result set is made up of a number of ordered rows. At least some of the rows contain row data, while each of the rows contains a bookmark that may be used to retrieve row data for the row. When it is determined that the size of the result set should be reduced, a subset of the rows of the result set is identified. The identified subset of rows is contiguous within the order of the results set and includes rows that contain row data. For each row of the identified subset, the row data is removed from the result set while retaining in the result set the bookmarks of the rows in the identified subset. As the result of the removal of row data, the size of the result set is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5842214
Abstract: A distributed file system uses objects to model the behavior of components of the distributed file system. Each object has an associated logical path name and physical address. An aggregation of all the logical path names comprises a distributed name space which can be logically partitioned into domains. Each domain includes a domain folder object which maps logical path names of objects in the domain containing the domain folder object, into addresses in the distributed system where the objects are stored. The addresses of the objects are used to access the objects in order to retrieve information from the distributed system.

  • Patent number: 5666422
Abstract: A surround-sound system for use with conventional TV sets, using a wireless remote bipolar rear speaker (or two conventional speakers fed out of phase) for the surround (difference) channels. The use of the rear speaker(s) and the mono (left plus right) front speaker on the TV set creates "phantom" left and right front speakers, and allows full surround sound without modification to the TV set or additional amplifiers or speakers.
