  • Publication number: 20030030258
Abstract: An arrangement of a vehicle seat in a vehicle is proposed, an expansion area of a side airbag module being provided between the vehicle seat and an adjacent side wall of the vehicle. The vehicle seat and the adjacent side wall of the vehicle are arranged in such a manner in relation to one another that an occupant present on the vehicle seat is held, at least in his head region, at a minimum distance from an outlet opening of the side airbag module by elements of the vehicle seat and/or of the side wall.

  • Patent number: 6279942
Abstract: An air bag module housing for a motor vehicle has an oblong basic housing body which is used for receiving a gas generator and an air bag and which is laterally closed by two side covers. The air bag module housing is deformed in the event of an impact of a part of the body, particularly of the head, of a vehicle occupant. In order to optimize deformation of the air bag module housing, at least one slot respectively is provided in the side covers. The slot extends essentially perpendicularly to the expected impact direction of the body part along the largest part of the respective side cover to the edge.

  • Patent number: 5882037
Abstract: A plate- or shell-like plastic trim panel is provided with a convex structure configured such that, in the event of a horizontal compressive load running essentially in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, the trim panel undergoes a controlled elastic and/or plastic deformation in the direction of the adjoining free space. This arrangement avoids risking injury to legs of a vehicle occupant resulting from uncontrolled bending or breaking of flat trim panels without such convex structure.

  • Patent number: 5225986
Abstract: An igniting device for protective devices in vehicles has a pyro-electric igniting element which is associated with an electronic lock and a controlled switch for releasing the application of current to the igniter, and can be combined in an integral component. The application of an igniting signal leads to current being applied to the igniting element only after transmission of an unlocking signal to reliably prevent an unwanted triggering of ignition, for example by accidental application of an external voltage to the connections of the igniting device. The reactive igniting substance can be directly connected to a silicon chip which monolithically implements the electronic lock and the controlled switch.

  • Patent number: 5180187
Abstract: The application is concerned with a cover of an airbag unit in a motor vehicle which is equipped with a tear-open line and has a foam-backed foil and the process for making the cover. The process includes:a) heating a foil in the region of the intended tear-open line;b) forming a channel in the foil which is drawn-in in relation to the adjoining face of the foil in the region of the tear-open line;c) creating a reduction in wall thickness of the foil at the tear-open line, located at a channel bottom, by high-frequency embossing;d) introducing the foil into a mold and foam backing the foil;e) producing a smaller wall thickness in the foam backing in the region of the tear-open line.

  • Patent number: 5048863
Abstract: An anti-collision cushion is disclosed for the occupants of a motor vehicle. Known anti-collision cushions are constructed with a central part which is connected to two side parts of equal size. A tearing fold which reduces the volume capacity, and which is formed by a rip seam, is provided on the surface of the central part. In the deployment phase an expansion occurs with high velocities in the region of the side parts, which may result in injuries to the occupant in some circumstances. In the novel anti-collision cushion the rip seams connect the connecting seams which are contiguous in the region of the tearing fold between the central part and the side parts. A reduction of the expansion and of the expansion velocity, particularly in the region of the side parts, is thereby achieved.

  • Patent number: 4984651
Abstract: A passenger restraint system for motor vehicles is equipped with a safety belt, a belt tensioner, an inflatable airbag and with a switch member which detects the functional position of the safety belt and which is arranged in a belt lock of the safety belt. Activation of the airbag and of the belt tensioner takes place in dependence on the functional position of the safety belt. In order to reduce the risk of injury by the safety belt at medium speeds during the operative period of the airbag, an activatable belt-clamping device on the belt lock and an activatable belt pull-out detent for the shoulder belt are provided. In the presence of a second threshold signal indicating a moderate to serious injury, the airbag is released, the belt-clamping device is arrested. Additionally, the belt pull-out detent is released during the operative period of the airbag.

  • Patent number: 4929137
Abstract: A safety rivet arrangement for indicating the unauthorized opening of a housing whose wall parts are connected with each other at a separating joint which has a covered outer edge. A safety rivet extends through the connection and is considerably harder than the material of the housing wall parts. The rivet ends are arranged recessed, and the safety rivet is also only loosely peened-over so as to be rotatable. By reason of its high material hardness, and the rotatable arrangement, the rivet cannot be drilled out with some evidence of the drilling.

  • Patent number: 4840397
Abstract: A restraint device for the occupants of motor vehicles is described in which part of the wall of an airbag is designed as a filter. The filter has the keeps the particles released on ignition of the driving gas generator away from the internal space of the motor vehicle. The filter has a very high tear resistance so that the pores of the filter do not increase under load which would case the filter effect to decrease. A filter weave of aramid fibers in 2/1 twill weave with 24 threads per cm in the warp and 21 threads in the weft, the threads having a strength of dtex 250.times.2 Nm 40/2 is particularly advantageous.

  • Patent number: 4834421
Abstract: The application relates to a fastening means for a gas cushion unit associated with a passenger seat in a motor car, where the gas cushion unit exhibits a housing which is slidable into a frame formed by fixed parts of the vehicle and is anchorable there by the cooperation of a central screw ehich penetrates frame and housing at their upper side and lower side. In order to achieve absolutely reliable anchorage for a minimum assembly outlay, it is provided according to the invention that a channel closed radially at least in sections and serving for the passage of the central screw is provided on the rear side of the housing at least on a part of its vertical extension.

  • Patent number: 4726438
Abstract: A foot-supporting body in a motor vehicle is provided which is capable of supporting both feet of a passenger while reducing the intrusion depth, reducing the change in intrusion speed and performing deformation work. The foot-supporting body is made as a pure hard-foam moulded body which--arranged on the passenger/driver side of the end wall--extends beyond the left-hand foot-placement area at least as far as the area covered by the brake pedal. The inherent rigidity of the foot-supporting body, as viewed in the loading direction, which can be permanently deformed, is below that of the allocated area of the end wall. Polystyrene--or polyurethane--foamed plastic, with a lower volumetric-weight limit of about 20 g/dm.sup.3 is preferably used as the moulded body material in certain exemplary embodiments.

  • Patent number: 4715468
Abstract: A device for actuating a safety device, in particular a roll bar in a motor vehicle. The device includes a first sensor which is actuated when a vehicle acceleration exceeding a predetermined limiting value occurs and which generates a switch signal for a release device to activate the roll bar. The device also includes second and third sensors which control switches when both at least one wheel suspension is fully extended and the vehicle is tilted about either a longitudinal or transverse axis, so as to actuate the safety device during even relatively slow overturns.
