  • Patent number: 5680918
Abstract: A torque transmitting apparatus which can be installed between the prime mover and the transmission of a motor vehicle has a primary flywheel connectable to the output element of the prime mover. A secondary flywheel is coaxial with and rotatable relative to the primary flywheel. A friction clutch with a clutch disc drives the input element of the transmission when the clutch is engaged. A damper is provided between the two flywheels. The damper and the friction clutch constitute a power train which is provided with a coupling device serving to afford access to the clutch disc without damage to the elements of the power train, and with one or more slip clutches which limit the magnitude of the torque transmittable from the primary flywheel to the clutch disc in the engaged condition of the friction clutch. The slip clutch or slip clutches can form part of the coupling device or vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4182492
Abstract: A hydraulically operated fuel injector for compression-ignition engines which includes an electronically or pneumatically operated hydraulic pilot-control valve which is supplied with fuel under substantially constant pressure from a pump driven directly or indirectly by the engine. The pilot-control valve is connected by supply and exhaust passages to a slave valve which in turn controls the admission of fuel to a charging cavity located adjacent to an outlet valve to the combustion chamber. The slave valve is a stepped diameter piston which functions as a pressure amplifier for the fuel supply to the combustion chamber. Fuel from the pump which is received at relatively low pressure through the slave valve is amplified to high pressures sufficient to overcome compression and combustion pressures of the engine and the resistance of spring seated injector outlets and/or the fuel supply orifice(s).

  • Patent number: 4082470
Abstract: A variable connector for interconnecting lengths of tubing to form frameworks. The connector consists of a central body member having a number of attachment points formed thereon and a series of separate connector members which are adapted to be releasably secured to desired attachment points on the body member by means of screws or the like. Any one of a number of possible connector configurations may therefore be obtained merely be securing the required number of connector members to the required attachment points on the body member.
