  • Patent number: 8440082
Abstract: Method for the liquid solid separation of material mixtures and suspensions in which the material mixture under pressure is fed into a closed chamber having at least one filter surface and a hydrostatic pressure is generated within said chamber for separating the liquid phase. After separating the liquid phase the chamber is opened and the filter surface together with the filter cake is removed from said chamber. The material mixture firstly is treated by the means of hydrostatic pressure of about up to 0.2 bar, wherein 80 to 90% of the fed volume is removed as filtrate. Thereafter the concentrated remaining volume is drawn off and is further treated in the closed chamber with a pressure of up to 5 bar. By reducing the volume of the chamber finally with a pressure of up to 50 bar the remaining filtrate is separated.

  • Patent number: 5961827
Abstract: The invention relates an apparatus for the dewatering of sludge and similar substances with a sludge chamber (20) provided with filter areas (25) having at least one sludge inlet being connected to a device (3) creating a hydrostatic filtration pressure. The sludge chamber is formed by pressure plates (22, 23) which can be pressed against each other to create an additional mechanical dewatering pressure by high pressure generators (33). Further there is provided a predewatering stage (2) containing filter areas which is forming a compensation container (5) and which is connected to a continuous sludge feed (6). The device (3) for creating the hydrostatic filtration pressure is formed as one or more syringe-like piston cylinder units (14) of preferably as one or more containers being changeable in volume.

  • Patent number: 5863429
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for removing water from sludge the sludge is introduced into an intermediate chamber from which it is fed into at least one sludge chamber having a filter surface. A hydrostatic pressure is built up in the sludge chamber to remove the water. The sludge chamber is then opened and the filter surface moved out of the sludge chamber to remove the filter cake. The hydrostatic pressure is generated by the sludge being transferred out of the intermediate container, after the continuous feed of sludge thereto has been cut off, by positive displacement of the volume of sludge from the intermediate container into the sludge chamber. The feed of sludge into the sludge chamber may occur simultaneously at a plurality of points from a corresponding number of intermediate containers.

  • Patent number: 5059321
Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for crushing plant matter, particularly for re-pressing sugar-beet chips. The matter to be pressed is distributed in thin layers of approximately 10 mm thickness on filter cloths (2) and is then subjected in a plurality of superposed plies (3, 4, 5, 6) to a high compressive pressure between a press platen (7) and a press crown (8). A loading device (10) is provided to deposit the matter to be pressed in layers on the filter cloth (2). The press platen (7) and the press crown (8) are essentially level, rectilinear and horizontal. The stack (25, 25') formed by the filter cloth (2) and the matter to be pressed is also fed rectilinearly and horizontally through the press opening (9, 9A) between the press planten (7) and the press crown (8).

  • Patent number: 4971625
Abstract: A method for leaching gold and/or silver out or other precious metal containing substance using cyanide-containing leaching solutions and adding an aqueous H.sub.2 O.sub.2 solution to accelerate leaching. The total amount of the hydrogen-peroxide solution required for leaching is fed into the leaching slurry at the beginning of leaching. The amount of the H.sub.2 O.sub.2 solution is determined in that the H.sub.2 O.sub.2 is added in a 0.6 to 2.5-fold stoichiometric ratio to the cyanide concentration of the leaching slurry. The pH value of the leaching slurry is set and maintained at between 7 and 10 or between 11 and 13.

  • Patent number: 4906369
Abstract: In an apparatus for dewatering sludge the sludge to be dewatered is continuously fed to a pre-dewatering stage and is subsequently transferred to an enclosed sludge chamber volume, which is intermittently moved past stationary pairs of pressure-applying plates. The pre-dewatering stage is consituted by a stationary dewatering container which serves also as a buffer between the means for the continuous fooding of sludge and the means for a discontinuous and intermittent transfer of the sludge to the sludge chamber volume. Owing to that design the plant has a low structural expenditure and is operable at a high dewatering rate.

  • Patent number: 4275847
Abstract: A process for the treatment of an aluminum-salt slag produced in the remelting of aluminum by the addition of salt to aluminum scrap wherein the aluminum salt slag is subjected to pressure and impact rolling to a thickness of about 0.2 mm to about 1 mm and the product is milled to an X.sub.80 value of about 130 to 150 microns. The milled product is classified in a plurality of stages to recover therefrom a large-particle fraction consisting at least predominantly of aluminum particles, and a fine-particle fraction. The fine-particle fraction is subjected to flotation in at least one flotation stage to which a base is added in an amount of 0.04 to 0.4 g of the base per ton of the material subjected to flotation to bring the pH to between 10 and 11, whereupon a cation active collector of the formula RO--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --NH.sub.2 is added to recover an impurity-containing froth of low chloride level and a concentrate containing most of the chlorides of said slag.

  • Patent number: 4266474
Abstract: A filter apparatus comprising a gravitional extraction section 1 and a high pressure section 3. In the high pressure section 3 there is a rotatable drum 35 around which a pair of filter bands 4,5 on carrier belts 6,7 are advanced with means for applying pressure to the belts to squeeze the bands and belts together to expel water from the sludge 13 through open-topped channels formed in the carrier belts. An intermediate section 2 for applying medium pressure to the sludge may be provided and the bands and belts are continuous. Various special features like cleaning, different pressure loading systems, and driving means and other modifications are described but the principle is to progressively increase the pressure by advancing the sludge between the belt and carrier assembly and to arrange for the water expelled to be diverted through the channels 8,9 in the carrier belts with no frictional drag between the respective bands and belts as they advance at the same speed.

  • Patent number: 4059527
Abstract: An improved water removal in a filter press used in sludge treatment processes, typically in a sewage plant, is provided through the addition of a pretreatment stage where water is removed to an appreciable extent. The filter press pretreatment system is based upon continuously circulating filter pockets into which flocculant-treated sludge has been added, a significant amount of the water from the thus clarified sludge being removed through the combination of the use of this pretreatment and in this pretreatment using filter pockets of variable volume.
