    Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are provided for anchoring implantable medical devices to maintain an implanted position. In some embodiments, the medical devices are stimulation leads which are implanted near a portion of the neural anatomy for providing stimulation thereto. To maintain position of the lead, the lead is anchored with the use of a tissue-captured anchor which is attached to the lead at a desired point of anchoring. The anchor maintains position of the lead by resisting movement of the anchor between tissue layers at the point of anchoring.

    Abstract: A method of suturing patient tissue together is provided. The method comprises positioning a suture placement device adjacent patient tissue, the suture placement device having a body and a suture holder releasably attached on the body the method further comprises actuating the suture placement device, causing the suture placement device to pass an end portion of at least one suture element through patient tissue in response to actuating the suture placement device and causing the end portion of the at least one suture element to be held on the suture holder of the device after the end portion has been passed through the patient tissue. The method further comprises detaching the suture holder from the body of the device while the end portion of the at least one suture element is held thereon. A suture placement device and a suture placement system which can be used in the method of the invention are also provided.

    Abstract: Devices and methods are provided for securing leaflets of a cardiac valve together. The subject devices include an assembly having a fastener, means for temporarily securing the fastener to the leaflets and means for permanently securing the fastener to the leaflets and means for anchoring the fastener to the heart wall. The subject methods are characterized by temporarily grasping the leaflets of a valve together at an apposition point, assessing at least one of blood flow and pressure gradient across said valve, determining whether to permanently secure the valve leaflets at said selected apposition point based upon at least one of the measured blood flow and pressure gradient, and performing one of permanently attaching the leaflets together at the apposition site or releasing the grasped leaflets. Also included are assemblies which include a subject device and a delivery device and may include a pressure monitoring member and/or a flow monitoring member.

    Abstract: The metal shell of an acetabular cup has holes that allow a surgeon to screw the shell to pelvic bone. To prevent the debris of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene ("UHMWPE") or other plastic liner in the shell from migrating through the holes, the present invention seals each screw-receiving hole with a thin UHMWPE disc. The disc snaps into an annular groove in the hole. With the disc in place, debris from the liner does not pass through the screw holes.
