    Abstract: A dental implant (22) for surgical placement in a living jaw bone at least partially covered with gingival tissue and for mounting a cosmetic tooth prosthesis. The implant (22) includes an elongated body portion (24) to be received by the living jaw bone and an abutment portion (26) extending from the jaw bone and at least partially past the gingival tissue for receiving the cosmetic tooth prosthesis, wherein the body portion and the abutment portion form a single unit. The implant (22) further has a narrow profile.
