  • Patent number: 4996768
Abstract: A method for guiding a camshaft into place in an engine includes using a tool which includes a cylindrical sleeve or body having a smooth outer surface of slightly smaller diameter or no larger than the bearing surfaces of the camshaft. An alignment pin having a conical shaped end extends through a central opening in the cylindrical body so that the conical end engages a center bore in the end face of the camshaft. Various size bodies corresponding to the different sizes of bearing surfaces on different camshafts are provided, as well as a method for the installation of camshaft using the present apparatus.
