  • Patent number: 4657711
Abstract: A packing sheet for use in a device, e.g. a cooling tower wherein a film of liquid and a gas stream are brought into contact to effect heat exchange therebetween, the sheet being continuously corrugated to define a plurality of parallel depressions which are generally V-shaped in cross-section. Preferably the pair of walls which define each depression are disposed substantially at right angles with respect to one another and are disposed at an angle of around 45.degree. with respect to the plane of the sheet. Preferably the sheet is formed with transverse ribs which project from the walls of the depressions and which extend substantially continuously between the depressions to form channels which communicate between the depressions. Advantageously the sheet is formed in the walls of the depressions with angled projections, which preferably extend continuously between two adjacent crests of the depressions.

  • Patent number: 4579693
Abstract: A plate for assembly with similar plates to form a cooling tower packing and comprising a series of parallel mutually spaced ridges which are generally triangular in transverse cross-section. The ridges form means for spacing apart adjacent plates and when the plates are assembled together define opposite sides of at least one duct through which liquid is passed in contact with the duct surfaces while gas is passed through the duct to cool the liquid. The reverse sides of the ridges preferably form depressions which are V-shaped in transverse cross-section, one of which is provided in each duct.

  • Patent number: 4553993
Abstract: Means for removing liquid droplets from a gaseous stream, in particular a drift eliminator for an evaporative cooling tower, comprising a duct formed with a generally V-shaped relatively large depression which extends along the duct and which is formed in its interior with a sharp corner extending along the depression. The drift eliminator preferably comprises an assembly of plates each having a series of parallel mutually spaced ridges which are generally triangular in transverse cross-section, which ridges form means for spacing apart adjacent plates and which define opposite sides of at least one duct. The reverse sides of the ridges preferably form the depressions which extend along the ducts.
