  • Patent number: 5342976
Abstract: A composition suitable for topical application to human skin comprises, in addition to a suitable vehicle an active ingredient which can control skin barrier functions. The active ingredient is (a) a long chain .omega.-hydroxy fatty acid or a carboxy-substituted derivative, (b) an hydroxy-or epoxy-derivative of an essential fatty acid or an ester formed between (a) and (b). Certain novel compounds of structures (a), (b) and (a)(b) esters are also claimed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 27, 1992
Date of Patent: August 30, 1994

  • Patent number: 4399007
Abstract: Process for the selective hydrogenation of polyunsaturated compounds with a metallic catalyst. The selectivity is increased and trans-isomerization is decreased by carrying out the hydrogenation in the presence of a catalyst to which, before the hydrogenation is started, an external potential, differing from the naturally occuring equilibrium potential, is applied while in contact with an electrolyte, such as a quaternary ammonium salt, dissolved in a liquid, such as an alcohol or a ketone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 17, 1981
Date of Patent: August 16, 1983
    Assignee: Lever Brothers Company
Inventors: Albert Froling, Rudolph O. de Jongh, Josephus M. A. Kemps
