  • Patent number: 11105786
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for quantifying contributions of gas mixtures in a reservoir compartment by way of isotopic analyses. Differing thermal maturities of the different gas mixtures allow estimation of the relative quantity of each gas mixture present in a total gas mixture. Thermal maturities may be estimated by reference to isotopic analyses of each contributing gas mixture and a commingled gas mixture resulting from commingling each of the individual source gas mixtures. This method may be carried out at various depths to determine relative contributions of each gas mixture to the total gas mixture as a function of wellbore depth. Advantages of certain embodiments include, but are not limited to, higher accuracies and ease of application as compared to conventional methods.

Date of Patent: August 31, 2021
    Assignee: CONOCOPHILLIPS COMPANY
Inventors: Albert G. Holba, Dariusz Strapoc, Derik W. Kleibacker, Lisa H. Wright, Jerry H. Veldhuis
  • Patent number: 10641750
Abstract: This method allows for prediction of subsurface fluid properties (e.g., phase or API gravity) using gas chromatogram data of a small-volume extract. Small volume equates to microliter scale volume (or milligram scale weight) from a subsurface rock sample, where a fluid test may not be available for analysis. The method may also be applied to petroleum liquid samples where drilling fluid or other contaminants preclude accurate direct property measurement. Gas chromatographic data is calibrated to measured petroleum properties; preferably local oils from the same petroleum system, however, a general global calibration can also be used.

  • Patent number: 5276196
Abstract: This invention relates to the synthesis of bis(haloarylsulfonyl) aromatic compounds and more specifically, bis(chlorophenylsulfonyl) aromatic compounds. Bis(chlorophenylsulfonyl) aromatic compounds and particularly 4,4'-bis(4-chlorophenylsulfonyl)biphenyl are frequently used as monomers and comonomers in making high temperature polymers which possess glass transition temperatures greater than 260.degree. C. A process has been developed wherein product of high purity and minimal iron contamination is produced by reacting haloarylsulfonyl halide with an aromatic compound in the presence of an appropriate catalyst with and without solvent.

  • Patent number: 4990678
Abstract: A process for purifying a halogenated aromatic sulfone or ketone compound comprising contacting the compound with a solvent having a normal boiling point less than about 225.degree. C. to form a mixture, heating the mixture to a temperature above the normal boiling point of the solvent in a closed system to form a solution, cooling the solution to recrystallize the compound, and recovering the compound. A second embodiment of the invention comprises repeating the purification process steps at least once to further purify the halogenated aromatic sulfone or ketone compound.

  • Patent number: 4577492
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for analysis of a sample of matter for multiple organic constituents and elemental sulfur in a single process. The method involves passage of a fluid sample through a first separations zone for retention of a first organic constituent, passage through a second separations zone for separation of the remaining organic constituents and sulfur, and quantitative determination of each constituent of interest including elemental sulfur.
