  • Patent number: 8176979
Abstract: A method and apparatus for surveying a well in real-time and responding to operational conditions in response to the surveillance. According to one or more aspects of the present disclosure a method for surveillance of a well includes providing a producing a fluid from the formation into the wellbore, injecting a fraction of the fluid from the wellbore into an injection zone of the formation via operation of a pumping system. Well data is sensed in the wellbore proximate to the injection zone and a formation injection performance parameter is determined using the sensed well data. The formation injection performance parameter comprises one selected from the group of stable injection, negative skin, positive skin and water channeling.

  • Publication number: 20100147511
Abstract: A method for surveillance of a well includes the steps of providing a pumping system in a wellbore that penetrates a formation; producing a fluid from the formation into the wellbore; injecting a fraction of the fluid from the wellbore into the formation via operation of the pumping system; surveying the pumping system in real-time via a sensor that senses well data; determining in real-time the correlation of a well parameter with a preselected threshold well parameter, wherein the well parameter is related to the sensed well data; and outputting a signal in response to the well parameter exceeding the preselected threshold parameter.

  • Patent number: 7406398
Abstract: A system and method are provided for identifying underperformance in a pumping system used to produce a desired fluid. Various conditions are sensed during operation of the pumping system, and those sensed conditions are used to determine measured parameters that are provided with an associated confidence factor. The measured parameters in conjunction with the confidence factors are compared to a reference composite curve for the specific pumping system to determine whether actual performance has satisfied underperformance criteria or moved across a threshold into underperformance.

  • Patent number: 7004020
Abstract: A system and method for profiling and modifying fluid flow through a wellbore. The system comprises a logging system, a downhole unit, and a deployment system. The logging system comprises a logging tool. The downhole unit is operable to house the logging tool. In addition, the downhole unit is operable to selectively secure a retrievable fluid barrier within a wellbore casing. The deployment system is operable to deploy the downhole unit in the wellbore casing. The method comprises deploying the downhole unit into the wellbore and securing the retrievable fluid barrier below a first group of perforations. The method also comprises operating the logging tool to detect a wellbore fluid parameter.
