  • Patent number: 8335962
Abstract: A convolution interleaver for processing a codeword derived from an input block of symbols using a redundancy-adding coding, and having more symbols than the input block, wherein the codeword has a sequence of interleaving units, wherein each interleaving unit has at least two symbols, includes an interleaver. The interleaver changes the sequence of interleaving units to obtain an interleaved codeword having a changed sequence of interleaving units. In particular, the order of the symbols within an interleaving unit is not changed by the interleaver. The order of the interleaving units in the codeword among each other or with respect to a previous or subsequent codeword is changed, however.

  • Publication number: 20120069857
Abstract: Exact data-rate analysis of the information signal portions to be transmitted in a subsequent transmission cycle per time-division multiplexing process shall be initially omitted. Instead, on the basis of highly accurate estimated values for the subsequent data rates, estimated values for relative waiting times are transmitted, in a current transmission cycle, from the current time slice to the subsequent time slice of the same service. In the subsequent transmission cycle, actual data rates may be set which may deviate from the estimated data rates for the individual information signals, as a result of which predicted time-slice boundaries for the subsequent transmission cycle may shift. However, the potential shift in the time-slice boundaries is subject to several boundary conditions. No time slice of the subsequent transmission cycle can start prior to its signaled estimated starting time. With constant data rates, the estimated time-slice structure and the actual time-slice structure are identical.

A terrestrial transmitting station further includes a transmitter for sending out the combination signal. A broadcast system includes a first transmitter and at least one terrestrial transmitting station.

  • Patent number: 7173979
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for transmitting information symbols using a plurality of carriers, wherein a first transmission symbol is produced (52, 54) on the basis of an information symbol. A second transmission symbol is also produced (52, 54) on the basis of the same information symbol, wherein the second transmission symbol differs from the first transmission symbol. The first and second transmission symbols are modulated (56) on a carrier and transmitted (62) at different intervals. The invention further relates to a method and a device for receiving information symbols represented by the first and second information symbols, wherein both transmission symbols received are used in order to extract the information symbol contained in both transmission symbols.

  • Patent number: 7061997
Abstract: A method and an apparatus relating to a fine frequency synchronization compensating for a carrier frequency deviation from an oscillator frequency in a multi-carrier demodulation system of the type capable of carrying out a differential phase decoding of multi-carrier modulated signals, the signals comprising a plurality of symbols, each symbol being defined by phase differences between simultaneous carriers having different frequencies. A phase difference between phases of the same carrier in different symbols is determined. Thereafter, a frequency offset is determined by eliminating phase shift uncertainties related to the transmitted information from the phase difference making use of a M-PSK decision device. Finally, a feedback correction of the carrier frequency deviation is performed based on the determined frequency offset. Alternatively, an averaged frequency offset can be determined by averaging determined frequency offsets of a plurality of carriers.

  • Patent number: 6993084
Abstract: A method for generating a signal having a frame structure, each frame of the frame structure comprising at least one useful symbol, a guard interval associated to the at least one useful symbol and a reference symbol, comprises the steps of performing an amplitude modulation of a bit sequence such that the envelope of the amplitude modulated bit sequence defines a reference pattern of the reference symbol and inserting the amplitude modulated bit sequence into said signal as said reference symbol. A method for frame synchronization of a signal having such a frame structure comprises the steps of receiving the signal, down-converting the received signal, performing an amplitude-demodulation of the down-converted signal in order to generate an envelope, correlating the envelope with a predetermined reference pattern in order to detect a signal reference pattern of the reference symbol in the signal, and performing the frame synchronization based on the detection of the signal reference pattern.

  • Patent number: 6993094
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide coarse frequency synchronization compensating for a carrier frequency deviation from an oscillator frequency in a demodulation system capable of demodulating a signal having a frame structure with at least one useful symbol and a reference symbol which is an amplitude-modulated sequence. A received and down-converted signal undergoes amplitude-demodulation to generate an envelope that is correlated with a predetermined reference pattern to determine the carrier frequency deviation. Finally, the oscillator frequency is controlled based on the carrier frequency deviation. The reference symbol may comprise two identical sequences. In this case, the envelope obtained by the amplitude-demodulation has two portions which are based on the identical sequences. One of the portions of the envelope is correlated with the other one of the portions in order to determine the carrier frequency deviation.

  • Patent number: 6931084
Abstract: A method of performing an echo phase offset correction in a multi-carrier demodulation system involves the step of differential phase decoding phase shifts based on a phase difference between simultaneous carriers having different frequencies. An echo phase offset is determined for each decoded phase shift by eliminating phase shift uncertainties related to the transmitted information from the decoded phase shift. The echo phase offsets are averaged in order to generate an averaged offset. Finally, each decoded phase shift is corrected based on the averaged offset.

  • Patent number: 6690927
Abstract: A DECT transmit-receive terminal comprises a plurality of transmit-receive antennas for communicating with a DECT base station, a device for determining the quality of a communications connection between the DECT transmit-receive terminal and the DECT base station, and a means for switching over from one transmit-receive antenna to another transmit-receive antenna, said switch-over means being connected to the determining device for switching over if the quality of the communications connection is below a predetermined threshold. An antenna diversity effect is thus realized for the DECT transmit-receive terminal by means of which the transmission quality of the communications connection is improved.

  • Patent number: 6584138
Abstract: In a coding method and a coder for introducing a non-audible data signal into an audio signal, the audio signal is first transformed to a spectral range and the masking threshold of the audio signal is determined. A pseudo-noise signal and a data signal are provided and multiplied with each other so a to provide a frequency-spread data signal. The spread data signal is weighted with the masking threshold, and thereafter the audio signal and the weighted data signal are superimposed. In a method and a decoder for decoding a data signal introduced into an audio signal in non-audible manner, the audio signal is first sampled and thereafter the sampled audio signal is filtered in non-recursive manner. The filtered audio signal is subsequently compared to a threshold value so as to retrieve the data signal.

  • Publication number: 20020080854
Abstract: A base station includes a transmission/reception device for communication with a mobile unit using one hopping sequence from a set of hopping sequences with a hopping sequence being a defined temporal sequence of transmission/reception frequencies and each hopping sequence differing from the other hopping sequences in the set. The base station also includes an identification device for the identification of the hopping sequence used for communication, so that the base station is always correlated with exactly one hopping sequence. A mobile unit allocated to that base station generates the hopping sequence used by the base station itself. Therefore by modification of the physical layer, but without modification to the higher protocol layers of DECT, an adaptation of applications designed for the DECT standard to the communication technology stipulated for the ISM bands can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 5461348
Abstract: A PLL circuit modulatable by a modulation signal having a direct current component has a voltage-controlled main oscillator, a loop divider, a phase comparator and a loop filter. The reference frequency signal for the phase comparator is derived from the modulation signal by a first compensation filter, a voltage-controlled reference oscillator and a reference divider being connected downstream of said first compensation filter. The voltage-controlled main oscillator is controlled by the modulation signal via a second compensation filter followed by a downstream data lowpass.
